Should my website be a personal or expert business site?
My website is Lifetomake.com which I'm currently rebranding because I find quite a lot of mistakes there. However, I don't know if I need to leave the "About Us" page a personal one (as it is now) or should I position myself as an expert?
I wanted it to be a simple blog at first. Soon, I realized that I want to provide services as well. Now I'm struggling to decide on a rebranding strategy.
Thank you for your advice.
The answer seems relatively simple - is your website a hobby or is it a business? It would seem like a business, and as such, you should approach it from the point of view as a subject matter expert.
I love what you are doing – it's half the battle for anyone being able to find a fulfilling life and spend their working hours “in the zone,” where you lose track of time and really love what you do. Bravo!
A few unsolicited critiques: Not a big fan of the logo, it's too frilly and doesn’t convey confidence. Using the term “IS A SELF-DEVELOPMENT PROJECT” makes it sound like you're dabbling with a project and not making things happen with intent. Perhaps a more powerful statement might be, We help people find out what really drives them and we teach them how to get it (just a knee jerk gut response, surely, it could be better articulated than that).
Continue writing great content and show people how you can help them. Over and over. Write about some examples and the difference it makes in the quality of your life. I whole-heartedly believe most people are miscast into the wrong positions and roles and are subsequently disappointed, depressed, and unfilled. I also believe that doing your “own thing” is NOT the answer and can generally lead to even more stress and anxiety.
You should make an expert website but remember to humanize it. People want to buy products and services from professionals, yet they are more comfortable to communicate with those who are approachable. So when you make your web design, make sure it doesn't have a strict look. You can personalize even an expert business site. It all depends on your content, tone, and design.
One of the most engaging ways for businesses to establish trust with potential customers is to humanize their image through their website development. So in a way, having a face and a human story to your website can really be an engaging option. On the other hand, it is also important for you to come across as an expert for people to be able to put their trust in your brand immediately. I think the key is to find the right balance in how you develop your website.
One of the ways you could do that is to talk about your expertise through a lens of emotion and struggle. Be genuine. You can talk about who you are and what you represent as a person and use that as the launching pad for why what you do is something that is close to your heart. This achieves two things. It positions you as someone who knows what he is talking about but it also helps people connect with you on an emotional level, rather than just an HTML on their browser. You are not inherently different from your website. Make your website seem like an extension of your personality and you're good to go!
I've visited your site and as for me, your website looks very harmonical. You write about self-development, skills, relationships and it is very great to write winning "about me page". If I were you, I'd write about myself as a very close person to everyone and their problems and as an expert with great experience at the same time.
You wrote a very sincere and working description for your blog field but I think you need to attach more images and vary your content.
And also I recommend you to read this very useful article on how to create about me page: https://weblium.com/blog/how-to-write-killing-about-page-12-best-about-us-about-me-page-examples/
There are many examples which will answer your questions.
I guess you should promote your website as a tandem of expert and personal stands. You challenge here that life matters, which has an ambiguous nature and could not be explained in a universal way.
For sure, you want to make sure your source is useful and readable, for those you need to make people trust you.
When it is said about life, feeling relations – all that is in the focus on your site – people tend to believe more in personal stories and experiences.
It is easy to explain – human inner “I”, in the majority cases, is not guided by the scientific laws. Expert information can provide broad unified recommendations, it sometimes seems to be far from reality and that is why people tend to look across the variety of practical individual experiences to find the answer suitable for their case.
Indeed, the professional or expert item is also crucial to avoid turning the site into the platform for gossips. As for me, I would make the accent on the expert component and enhance it with personal stand.
If you are individually undertaking this website, it should be like - "ABOUT ME". Wherein you can include your experience, expertise and offer visitors a small sample of works you have done in the past.
The best way of personal branding is letting other people talk about you. So in your case, you can keep some of the success stories of people whom you have helped achieve big.
I was just there.
Your site is awesome.
Commented there on one of your posts.
I saw it many times how people would react better to a person than a business. See, this way they understand that a real person stands behind the business. Facebook and Instagram help a lot in this case. People tend to trust emotions. A human being can have emotions, businesses not so much.
Position yourself as an expert and be one. You need to have a strong online presence, including but not limited to LinkedIn, Quora, Reddit, Business.com.
