What are a few websites with positive reputations for freelance writing? I'm already with Elance, so are there any other good ones?
Looking for new freelance writing work. Know any good sites or companies hiring contractors? Web content writing, like writing, article writing, press release writing, etc.
I've been working for 4 years on Odesk, try it. The start is a bit tedious, but there are a lot of offers.
Hi Heather, Just start on odesk, if you need some help to kickstart your career there, let me know.
you can use people per hour, where you will get good Agencies.
Hello Heather --
I would explore Behance and Medium to showcase your work and attract new clients.
I am not 100% sure, but CrowdSpring may also offer writing freelance jobs. I know theiy focus mainly on design, but worth a shot. Guru is also good. As is Elance. But the folks who post work on those sites are looking to pay very little. If you're looking for an opportunity to simply build a resume or portfolio, this might be a good way to do it. But if you're looking to use these sites to make a living, you might consider promoting your services on an independent basis. You'll be paid better. Good luck!
Hi Heather - Every time you get published, it's easier to get your next job. I found Elance of no help, oDesk slightly better (the two have now merged). Those job posters are looking for bottom dollar - which you might have to do to build a resume. You might also set up a freelance profile at indeed.com; you'll get a daily email with job matches. I have several good, repeat clients whom I found on my own. But you have to have a portfolio to go this route.
My projects have come mainly through networking. I started conversations with writers who I admire. Once they got to know me better, some of them were able to give me suggestions, and one even referred me to her editor. I also echo Dana's advice. I had to start my own business for tax purposes, and suddenly I noticed that potential clients took me more seriously. Finally, decide if you have a niche or if you are a generalist. I have developed a niche helping non-technology folks become more comfortable with technology through good communications.
I hope this helps.
