What are some of the more unconventional team-building exercises you've seen or experienced?
I recently heard of a small business that uses the video game Fortnite as a way to build team cohesion in its down time. The CEO of that company said it's helped boost morale and productivity.
That made me wonder what other oddball team-building exercises there are out there. What are some fun and strange activities you've heard of or done in the name of team-building?
Our company once made a trip to the mountains. Not very tall, but beautiful. Cooked food on a gas burner, drank water from a stream. For those who did not go hiking in childhood, this was a test.
Not necessarily within my current sales position, but within my work history, we had the team make dinner together and have a family style get together. We had to use great communication to pass ingredients, pace the timing right and it gave us all time to relax and bond. Another time we did this science type seminar where we made experiments out of materials from the general store. We learned new lessons alongside one another, not in competition with one another. It was awesome.
I find that if you give people something to work towards, a unifying goal that actually has a point, it can uplift the team.
