What are the most recommended CRMs for a small retail store?

My small boutique has increased in sales thanks to some recently promoted posts on Instagram and Pinterest that received a lot of impressions. I would like customers to be able to create a profile through my website that stores their basic profile information and previous order history. Up until this point, I've been using PayPal so I don't store any payment information on the website and only collect their email address to send them an order and shipping confirmation email.

Any recommendations on CRMs to start with for a small online retail store? I am looking for something that is easy to integrate, since I don't have the expertise to install it myself.

Hi Kirsty

I think in many cases people misuse the term CRM when they actually mean a database!

The question is what do you want to do with this data. Unless you are clear about it, you may spend a lot of money on CRM application where you would have been just fine with a good e-Commerce package and mailing service such as MailChimp or Constant Contact.

CRM offers much wider function and might be of an overkill and as such is beyond most small businesses.

I would be happy to answer any questions you may have on either CRM or alternative solutions that might be a better fit for you, so just DM me if you want to take this conversation further.

Hi Kristy,

There are a number of great CRMs out there. The selection depends on how fast you are planning to grow your business, what channels are you planning to use, the number of transactions that you handle and your budget, of course. The best way to go is to choose a scalable solution, which will save you a ton of time down the road.

I would go with Insightly or Pipedrive - for their simplicity and affordability, yet they both feature enough tools to cover your needs.
If you need a bulletproof solution with an unmatched scalability and variety of plugins, you need to go with Salesforce. Thus it can be somewhat pricey for a small boutique.

Good luck!

From your question, it looks like you are not looking for a CRM, but a e-commerce solution that would let people purchase stuff from your website. You should probably look at a simple e-commerce store like shopify to get started with. They are a hosted solution and it is fairly easy to setup as well. Also, you can integrate with other payment gateways such as stripe which charge a much lower fee than paypal.

If you want a bit more customization and control and can afford a developer to set it up for you, you could check out woocommerce, a e-commerce platform built on top of WordPress CMS.

Let me know if you need any help with this and let us know the solution you went ahead with and why!
