What are the text message marketing opt-in requirements for our Christian school parents?
We have 5,072 cell phone numbers from our database of parents, and all of them have willingly listed them on our contact forms. Our development department is currently conducting a fundraising campaign, and I want to utilize text-to-give as part of the campaign. We use a company called GiveSmart that allows our parents and friends to text a word to a designated number and make online donations.
My question: Since the parents willingly listed their cell numbers, am I still required by law to get their permission to send them text messages as part of a text-to-give campaign?
We text many of them individually all the time (to promote events or remind them of certain donor opportunities), but I'm just not sure if the "rules" are different when you're sending out a mass text. I would appreciate any clarification on this. Thanks!
