What could a successful author do in today's online world to best promote/conduct their business operations?
After being a Featured TV Success Story, #1 Best-Selling Author of 'Conversations with Millionaires', & Speaker/Trainer at various seminars, I had a brain anneurysm that put me in a 10-day coma where I was given only a 12% chance of survival. I DID survive. But, I've been recovering for the last few years (with my memory, etc) while all of this Social Media, Online Video, etc world evolved into what it is today. So, now I'm wanting to get leads, sales and impact cranking again in this 'new' online world that exists today. So, I'm curious what you would suggest as a great path/method for making maximum positive impact & success for me in today's new online/social media world to really get things cranking at higher levels than ever before?? Thx a BUNCH for your help/ideas/advice!! :-)
It looks like you are doing the right thing. I was going to say YouTube, and a great website. You did both. TedX would be another which you may have done that.
I am coaching a person who I wont say his name has done well for himself as a inspirational speaker. He has good months and bad. He hasn't written the book to leave with the people he inspires. I am urging him to put his life on paper. People want it. I even came up with names for his books based on the inspiration I got from his story.
You need to push push push!! More books, more videos, Radio, schools, churches, set up a junket for yourself. Slowing down allows people to forget you and they forget fast.
I have two other people I just started coaching similar but their stories of how they became successful and what they are doing to make other peoples lives better. They are so inspiring. When I listened to them tell me their stories, I watched as I listened. They weren't talking to impress, they were talking about their passion of helping others and man it really hits deep.
They need to write their books like you because of the organizations they started they will automatically sell them. Not for money but to inspire the world which will build the cause even stronger.
You need to inspire people. I believe motivation last a long time but mostly temporarily. Inspiration hits deep and last l a long time and most often a life time. I cant wait to read through your website. Best of success.
Don't spend a lot of money but get yourself a real web marketing agent that has handled your type of consulting to give you a plan and do the work.
I help folks gain a toehold and branding by building a brand in social media. I work with the client to choose the right image and put it into both an embellished eBook and an app that can be marketed using PhoneGap technology direct to users. You have to look good to get good results, and we help you accomplish this.
Jason, cannot go without saying - CONGRATULATIONS on your survival,,, and boy what a story.
That should be your major hook when you go online. Start sharing your story, your experience, your pains and joys...and what you have learned from that, as it pertains to Conversations with Millionaires and the other work you have previously done, and the direction it is now taking you.....
My recommendation - no need to start spending money yet to get up and going -
- Set up a blog and start writing regularly sharing your story and how it ties to your work
- Depending on who your target customer is... share those same blogs and such on FB, Twitter, and create images of your stories for Pinterest.
- YouTube is great as it creates an immediate connection with folks....
Now, that may seem daunting, as I could also recommend others... but the key is to 1) create great content and 2) repurpose it.
Turn a blog post to an article to a tweet to an image to a video to an audio....... so you are only creating one over piece of content that can be used in so many ways......
Start SMALL...and grow. Without all of the details, I am already hooked in wanting to hear more from and about you...use that.
Integrated Marketing
Whatever does marketing have in common with a boomerang? If you throw a stick, it flies about 30 feet. Frank Donnellan once threw a boomerang 377 feet, longer than football field. A boomerang uses gravity and air resistance to aid its flight.Marketing uses other weapons to aid its flight. Single-weapon marketing has nothing to aid its flight.
That’s why one of the key factors in marketing tody is integration. Integrated marketing gives your campaign a life of its own.
For example, a direct mail campaign can go just so far. But, if during that campaign, your prospects read articles about you in the newspaper, if they've invited to a special event you're sponsoring, if they hear you interviewed on a radio talk show, if they see your ads, if they read you'll be giving a talk somewhere -- that's when your direct mail campaign becomes infused with the physics of the boomerang and flies much further than it would ordinarily. Your efforts have breathed life into it.
To make these well-selected weapons operational, they all must be pulling in the same direction, saying virtually the same thing, helping to clarify instead of confuse the consumer. Everything in the boomerang's flight is designed for maximum air time -- and accuracy.
Where possible, PR opportunities and fusion marketing should be employed. To reduce marketing costs by generating return business and referrals, a marketing database is a must.
An integrated solution to a marketing problem begins with close inspection of yourself, your target audience and your marketing environment. Your prospect's state of mind, lifestyle and media usage are the best clues you have to which combination of tactics and weaponry will bring about maximum results. And every element of your mix should spring from and reinforce the single strategic throughout behind the campaign. Divergent approaches baffle the prospect and put a drag on the thrust of your campaign. Without integration, you've got a shapeless stick doing battle for you. With it, you've got a sleek, aerodynamic flying machine.
The marketerin who brings talent and judgment to many marketing are the ones that become successful. These people aren't scared of marketing, aren't intimated by media, know how to do research, realize the abundance of free weapons, and believe fervently in operating from a plan. They're fascinated with online marketing, love the accountability of direct marketing, and are as intrigued with newsletters and customer follow-up.
Integrated marketing is the hallmark of the present and future. Great news for marketers of today, but hardly what award-lovers living in the past want to hear.
I hope this will help you,
Joseph Moran
You already have the connections and because of past health problems and your ability to make a remarkable recovery, I would think that you would retrace your steps and reconnect with past connections and use them to help you. Also as David said get yourself a real web marketing agent that has handled your type of consulting to give you a plan and do the work.
As Bernadette said Congratulations on Your Survival.
In addition to what she and most everyone has said the one area which can get you the most exposure is the mass media.
You have 2 stories to tell your own survival and what you have learned.
Producers in radio & TV are always looking for experts and new stories.
Business Media in print & online is always looking for new stories.
Most everyone wants to be richer. You have insights and advice
Create a media kit and send it out to the right people with links to your sight.
Be persistent in reaching those people
That includes sending them press releases announcing appearances and when youa re published.
1. Build your leads with Podcast.
2. Hold Seminar and/or Webinar. Eg: www.BeatOnlineCompetitors.com
3. Become a guest speaker at events. Eg: Peaks Potential, JCK Shows etc.
4. Email Marketing with lists. Eg: Buy list from InfoUSA
5. Get a booth in big shows and conventions as per your target market.
6. Select 3-5 companies that resonate with your book and ask them to advertise behind your book, to net immediate profits to allow you to sponsor your seminars or booths.
Good Luck! Good Health & Wealth!
Jason,
Trust your instincts. You've already accomplished so much. Social media, in my humble opinion (IMHO) is much overrated for lead generation. I just "googled" you ... you have established a position on all the current social media sites. Leverage your accomplishments. I tremendously respect your vision and success. One observation about your website: I predominantly use MSIE10 as my browser. The JPG images are not displaying on your "About" page.
Author should be able to write on various blogs of publishers and book stores. Since your books have good material in it , firstly the publisher should be able to promote the sales . Secondly it is important for readers to know as to what is in your books for them to read.Hence you should give out brief of each book the blogs.
you are lucky...you have a stepping stone, several actually, both your past success, and your tragedy, give you strategic means to get back on stage, with a new book, even, and your story is more captivating...pictures of you getting better, with little chances of survival...just go get it baby...this is yours...!!!

Hello Jason , I Just was looking at your site , Its not so effective for an one - Its less than ordinary site , I guess it should be in a better shape - more attractive for any visitor - e,g - when ever any one visits your site first look gives first impression , If you will excuse me people at present do care for how it looks without looking at the its contains , By the time people visiting your site may increase & tell others which reflects the material on it . thanks
Jason, I also wanted to say, a lot of people are making a ton of money on he same concepts like "The law of attraction". It starts exciting and then gets old. Eric Thomson is a person to check out. He inspires and changes things up Jim Rohn who was another truly inspiring person.
