What is the best open source ERP available for accounting?
I have narrowed it down to Idempire and Odoo as finalists. From my point of view, Odoo has more apps and is more user friendly. However, Idempire is java code and may be easier to connect with an existing software. In your opinion, is Odoo a true open source?

It's the question: how do you define OpenSource? We went through the same evaluation and at the end we came to the conclusion that OpenERP/Odoo is the best-in-class opensource ERP system with a large number of interesting additional modules (like project management, CRM-copy of Sugar, etc.). For us the biggest question was: do we want to customize and modify on our own or with an external company and we decided to outtask and not to build-up own resources due to complexity and fixed costs. Having said that it depends on the budget you have available and what you are aiming for. In our calculation we found out that it's easily possible that other "traditional" ERP-systems like SAP byDesign or Business One are potentially also of interest. Best regards Heiko
