Does anyone have any ideas for a great promotional gift that a tutoring business can give to a high school student?
I have a non-profit tutoring business called helpafterschool.com. We employ local college students to tutor high school students after school. We have an opportunity to provide hand-outs to the students at freshman orientation.
The promotional item will serve two purposes:
1. Let freshman know about specific times and days of the week when we provide free tutoring
2. Promote our fee-based private tutoring i.e. (To request a private tutor call...)
I personally do not believe in promotional gifts. But if that's what you want, you need to offer something of substance that stays with them. About the only thing I can think of that stays with the student is their cell phone. So, possibly a well crafted and private labeled case might do the trick. If it's cheap it will find it's way to the garbage bin.
Personally, I would look to build an email list of all of the students and then send reminders that infer that when they start to struggle, call you immediately. Most will probably start to have problems in math withi 3 weeks. As you know, once they fall behind, it is very difficult to catch up. Another important market within that niche are those that excell. What motivates the parents within that niche is early on SAT training. If a student is a high performer, you probably can get them to a stellar level performance. It IS NOT best to wait one year before SAT's. Good luck. Hope this helps.
Assuming that textbooks are still being used in high school (versus on-line editions), I would suggest handing out promotional book covers which could have both the school name/logo/mascot, as well as some promotional material about your company (purpose, contact information, times/days of the week when services are offered). The promotional book covers are not only useful, show school pride, but also have your company information so studies will have the information for when they need to reach out.
Kids lose pens and pencils like it's their job. I would target the teachers and provide them with a supply of both to have for students to use when they find themselves unprepared for class. Customized sticky notes for teachers to use so helpafterschool.com is advertised on their desks and so the website is on their minds when students need extra help.
Your market is clearly identified in regards of engagement and preferences. Smartphones and tablets are by far the one constant in students these days. Suggestion:
1.- Design an app (NOT FREE) and set it up so that it keeps constant reminders of the services offered. The app should also help them remember appointments with helpafterschool.com, have access to the tutoring and whatever else you can think of value to increase engagement of your target market.
2.- Then, give away registry cards for ONE TIME USE so that they download your app (now one download for free only with the code you gave away) and become part of the social group that has access to your services. Each card should have a unique code and you can give those away in exchange for some small information like their contact e-mail; or after they answer a small (5 question) poll with information that can trigger their interest on your product.
This only works if your app is not for free on the standard market but free of charge with the one-time code. People in general don't value something that has no recorded value and it's given away… if you give it in exchange for something, like the information from a poll, you are validating the transaction as being important for both parties.
With your requirements in mind, a calendar seems to be the best choice of a promotional product. This helps out in both the criteria and would be very useful for the students too. Moreover, these calendars would serve as marketing materials which would attract the attention of the people seeing the calendar. I would personally recommend PrintStop for the printing the customized calendars as they provide the best quality and service to their clients. I personally have been their client for the past two years and haven't had any disappointments. Promotional gifts or swags can be tricky based on perceived value of the item.
First off, if you want to ensure that the Freshman know about specific times and days of the week when providing tutoring, I would use social media as a platform. Create a Facebook group only for them, create a twitter account where you can tweet reminders or find an inexpensive app that allows you to do mobile notifications to their phones.
If you want a GWP or promotional items, I would leverage feedback from the students (if you have time) about what they would perceive as a great item. You might be surprised what feedback you get.
Once you get some feedback, look for a vendor that can create these items for you , understand what the minimum order quantities are and cost and time frame. Some vendors will do small orders (under 100 units) while others want 500-1000 units. Some vendors will also create renderings of items for you.
School supplies are really great idea as been already mentioned before. But I would try to find out all the details before buying something, ask which items are usually mostly needed. Here is a very nice source offering lists of school supplies for every grade https://www.myschoolsupplylists.com/ , I guess it might help you somehow.
So, in this way, you can mingle several more gift hacks which will be both budget-friendly and attracting. Along with this, you can visit the website Printland, if you wish to explore their combo gift pack offer.
