What is the difference between a social media specialist and social media administrator?
I think the administrator can manage all your social platforms, write creative content, maybe they are a good designer, and they will know of free tools you can use to manage your social media.
I think a social media specialist also knows of many free & paid tools to manage social media platforms. So what is the difference?
There aren't any definition of such posts. People put the tag behind their name by their choice. It's the work they do that defines what exactly they do.

The difference between a social media specialist and administrator is this
Social media specialist does the following listed below
1. Building and executing social media strategy through competitive and audience research.
2. Setting up and optimizing company pages within each social media platform.
The specialist does not really know about the management of the organizations employees. he doesn't do web stuffs or manage emails or marketing automation.He is just keen on how the social accounts will function at that time.
Social Media Administrator (also called Manager/Coordinator): a social media manager might create and maintain new marketing campaigns, brand promotions or product lines for their company on different sites, monitor progress using web analytic tools, and answer directly to social media inquiries, all while using the company's voice and guidelines.
From above, you can see that specialist simply means he specializes on how contents can flow on social media, he is more like a freelancer. A social media manager is more into managerial aspect, he understands more and is a part of the business because he has to mange other team members (web designer, graphics, etc) to get results.
Though they can be used interchangeably.
And I haven’t heard about social media administrator.
However, I know there is so much debate about skills that social medial specialist should have because there are so many different types of people, of widely varying experience, who can occupy positions with a social media remit.
I know that social medial specialist can be with different background. For instance, it could be a person with communications, SEO, marketing or advertising background.
There are also the native social media specialists and integrated social media specialist.
Although no difference but, it can be visualized as - social media administrator to computer operator and social media specialist to system analyst.
I see no difference. Except the administrator seems to be more of a working person and specialist conveys more of someone who knows more stuff, plan the strategy and delegates it to the administrator.
There no difference between those two positions, it's just word play to confuse people.
There are a lot of ways to say the same thing. The social media administrator should be a social media specialist, who knows everything -- all the ins and outs of social media marketing -- and is comfortable with all the networks as well as the tools to manage it. As employee positions go, these are some I see out there are:
Community Manager: this person works with one network only usually including customer service.
Social Media Manager/Coordinator/Administer: a person who does everything with managing monitoring all networks (using the free or paid tools) as well as strategic and tactical planning and analytics and reporting. This person may or many not supervise employees.
A Social Media Specialist, like myself, usually works freelance on a contract basis. I specialize in social media marketing. I don't do websites or manage emails or marketing automation. I just do social media planning, setups, following building, management and maintenance for clients.
