What methods of fundraising should we consider for supporting the creation and marketing of a leadership book?
I am co-authoring a book about Leadership that will be a sequel to the one I wrote on NOBLE ENTERPRISE. It will include the results of a survey of several dozen corporate CEOs and business owners. We want to raise some funds to help us pay for the development and marketing of the book. Is crowd funding a good route?
Writte summary, with cathing words and share on social networks sides,...
Darwin, you can check out https://publishizer.com/ they are like a crowdfunding platform for books. It is based on obtaining pre-orders. All the best.
Crowd Funding for 'Intellectual Property Development" work isn't a good thing at all.
What is a good idea is to gain the alliance of a well know training company or group with only one or two sitting directors.
Crowd funding, YES no one gets to say anything on the deployment or manufacturing BUT its very hard to control unless you have a lead buy-in and then you have a clear possibility of a control factor.
Find a company that is into training and deployment company OR a publishing house.
You claim a previous book but you never stated the outcome of publishing OR revenue from the book, one can only assume, not very good outcomes on either front otherwise "Why would you be asking?"
Many authors today are pre-selling their books for shipping and handling costs and adding in a dollar or two extra in order to get some buzz up front and make some money for development. They use the money raised on presales to pay their expenses then use money from the next wave of sales to print and ship the previous order. There is a small risk however, if you're confident of sales, it works well.
Others are pre-selling at a discounted rate and offering some incentive. Be sure to send an email to everyone in your database with whatever you decided to do.
Crowd funding is good, however, there's no guarantee you'll get any donations so there could be a poor ROI for time spent on that. You still need to offer incentives for people to donate. It works best if you already know people who will help by making a donation.
It is OK from what I've been told...But you have a whole bunch of contributors better to send out your book to prospective funding people and see if interest develops...I do not know much more about crowd funding but it would get your book out initially
If you have an established and medium or large network of potential customers that you have the ability to reach out to electronically, i.e. you have their email addresses then crowd funding is a very viable option. For a successful KickStarter or IndieGoGo campaign you'll need to market it as you would a typical product, simply starting a funding campaign and hoping people find it on the site is a recipe for failure.
You'll need to consider what the rewards will be for your funders as well. KickStarter now frowns on offering the fruit of the project, in this case your book, as a funding reward but I have noticed that a number of campaigns still use this as their main incentive so you might be able to as well. IndieGoGo is much looser in what you offer as incentive.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Hey Darwin, since you are looking for a smaller amount, I think crowdfunding is a very good option. Obviously Kickstarter and IndieGoGo are great options. Also, I am the primary investor in a book publishing company (Indigo River Publishing). Message me and we may be interested in looking at the manuscript. Good luck.
I would make it available at Seminars, Leadership workshops and speaking engagments. I would also use Amazon's publishing. You can list and promote in one place.
