What percent of the company should I give my Vice President/brother?
Due to growth of my company that is directly tied to my Vice President, I'm planning on rewarding him with a percentage of the corporation. The Vice President also happens to be my younger brother.
I think you should consider a percentage based on the brother's input to the company. He is a Vice President and as far as I know, the Vice President has 30% at least. But I wouldn't give more than 10-15%, it's just my personal preferences.
Rewarding individuals for their contribution is always great, personally, through my business break down I usually give the individual a percentage based on his direct input to the company, for example, if the business has grown by 10-20% and is a start-up, then you feel he has added to say 25% of the management behind that growth you can directly relate that to the equity stake. So in this example, if it was a 20% growth, you could look to reward him with a 5% equity stake if you felt he did 25% of the management/work/contracts/time into that growth.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
