There are many accounting software packages to choose from but for small business owners, I would suggest to use QuickBooks as the accounting needs of the small business might be simple.
This software is capable enough to handle different accounting aspects such general ledger, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, credit card management, financial reporting and many other accounting tasks. This software offers on-premises accounting applications as well as cloud-based versions that alleviates the need of multiple excels, tables, spreadsheets, and tracking sheets.
QuickBooks allows users to export reports to excel, which is beneficial for tweaking the files and allows easier readability. In addition QuickBooks is available in several different versions, ranging from simple to complex depending upon the industry.
Overall, QuickBooks Cloud provides a basic, yet practical solution for maintaining financial records. If all the functionalities are used properly, this software can prove to be a valuable asset to small business owners.
Well, that depends a lot on business requirements. However, to provide a generic answer, I’d mention a couple of cloud accounting software which are suitable for small business to do bookkeeping:
Developed by Intuit, Quickbooks Online is an excellent cloud-based accounting software that is best suited for small and medium-sized businesses.
You can link your bank, credit cards, and PayPal account feeds directly to this software, hence eliminating the need for a manual data entry. All you need to do is reconcile transactions with a few clicks, and that’s it, it’s done!
It comes with effective Inventory management, payroll, and POS solution (you may need to pay some extra bucks to activate these features though). You can print and submit different tax forms directly from within this software. Of course, it depends on different countries as well.
Pricing starts from $12/month and goes up to a maximum amount of $75/month.
It provides a 30-day free trial period as well.
Xero Accounting Software
This one is my favorite. The reason is its simple and intuitive interface. Xero does not attempt to clutter and override different features in one place.
With the focus on small and medium-sized businesses, it’s strength lies in is its simplicity. Again, you have to pay a few extra bucks for payroll, but basic inventory management is free.
You can file sales tax from within the software, and it also provides support against multiple sales tax rates.
Also, it can connect with different bank feeds, so your reconciliation process becomes automated. Even more, you can set rules for different transactions to ease up your reconciliation process.
Pricing starts from $20/month and goes as high as $40/month.
However, the best thing is that it provides you with a one-month free trial. So, a great facility comes with this software, and you must verify first if it meets your needs.
Sign up for Xero
I hope this answer may help you. The best thing about this software, as mentioned above, is the free trial period.
Both of them provide a 30-day free trial period.
So, I’d suggest you go ahead and try them out. Thirty days is a good time to judge if the software can meet your needs.
I’m working with Cogneesol, and our team did independent research on top bookkeeping software, where we took suggestions from professional bookkeepers. A Must-Read blog: https://www.cogneesol.com/blog/bookkeeping-software-suggested-by-professional-bookkeepers
The best solution is one that the small business can and will actually use. There are a number of cloud-based accounting solutions, but each tends to be popular with certain types of small business owner.
Deskera ERP is also one such example of Modern ERP solution. Great integration and proven enhanced output.
There are so many options available. Best would be to analyze your accurate business requirements. A good design of chart of accounts and an efficient scheme of entries. Also depends which region you are operating.
Zoho books are very cost effective is region wise versions are available. Subscribe for a free trial and test for yourself at the link below. If you need any assistance for it, let me know.

The best accounting software is always as per your requirement.
But still as you are starting your business and do not want to spend on software than you can always go with Wave, Fresh book and Accounterlive.
Accounterlive is more likely as Quick book and free of cost.
It depends on your requirements and budget. Many business owners seem to gravitate toward FreshBooks. It's a web-based service that does accounting, time tracking, invoicing, etc. The next step up in terms of complexity and capabilities would be QuickBooks which is a very popular package for small businesses. I suggest looking at FreshBooks first, especially since you are a sole proprietor.
Depends on a few things. Quickbooks has a new product that is in the cloud and works for many companies. I would suggest you talk with your CPA or tax preparer and let them (a) guide you (b) set up your chart of accounts.
We recommend QuickBooks to our clients. It is dependent on the type of business you have whether the online version will work for you. If you have a manufacturing business with a lot of inventory, the online version is not robust enough currently but their desktop version is great and can be used with Citrix if you need a bookkeeper to access it remotely. It is a far superior product and easier to use than Sage products.
you choose is right. I also suggest you quickbooks. But you can check here (quickbookssupporthelp.com) which quickbooks version do you need Like Pro, premier, payroll, enterprise, proadvisor etc..
I was a Registered Tax preparer for about 3.5 years. As far as quick book goes, I don't think you will find a better software for small business owners.
Quickbooks has recently invested more time and energy on improving their platform and services and this is a good investment for small business.
No one has mentioned Sage yet, I've used it for a few years with no problems.
Also if you are going to use an accountant to finish the work check with them on recommended software, my accountant does free training on his recommended package to make their life easier.
Depending on your line of work there might be a specific program out there like Light blue for photographers which I'm looking in to at the moment.
Small Business Accounting needs to be simple and quick. Lets face it with today's economic environment small business owners cannot afford to spend hours pouring over their books, they need to be out their getting more work... Pouring over old money wont make you new money, accounting for the most part involves old money..
No matter what accounting product is being used it needs to be easy and simple enough to empower the user, but far to often I see clients trying to use software that does the opposite.
If your a small business owner and your software is giving your grief then take to time and look around for another product...
It depends on what you are looking for in an accounting system. If you are looking for the best consider Intacct. If you are looking for the least expensive, maybe Quickbooks.
Over the last 18 years, I have worked with many accounting systems for small to large businesses. In my humble opinion by far the best accounting software is Intacct.
It has functionality that some large ERPs do not offer and integrates easily with many other systems. It is cloud based and we can do accounting for clients anytime and from anywhere with ease. It is user friendly and has quick at-a-glance dashboards that can be customized for each user, allowing them to see exactly when they need in real-time. It is highly scalable to keep up with small to large businesses.
