As developers, where can we find software projects abroad?
My question is general but where do people find new software projects from abroad like the US, UK, Canada, Australia?
We are developers and we are looking for projects. The question is where to find them. Sites like Elance, Freelancer and so on have ridiculously low bits and the quality of work is very poor, most of the people are individuals who just want a simple 2-page web site or similar.
Some other sites you might look into are rent-a-coder, gigster, codeable and codementor.
You can directly contact business related websites through skype and other video platforms or contact them through email for work.
The sites like Upwork work, abroad or not. But it's ruthless out there for any developers because you have to stand out. That comes from properly communicating your skillset, not copying and pasting, and being honest. If you're a foreign group that's trying to reach American clients, then the #1 thing I would recommend is to focus on impeccable grammar. Bad grammar is a dealbreaker that ruins an otherwise great cover letter. And second, be unique and authentic in your messaging (don't copy and paste). No matter where you are in the world, if prospects can see the personality and authenticity of the developer within the first few lines, then you have a much better chance of winning.
A lot of American clients are looking for cheaper overseas talent. But they get burned more often than not by cheaper overseas talent. Try to be the one that stands out by building trust.
Last word of advice: if you're not in the U.S. please don't fake that you are. There is an epidemic going on with foreign developers faking the identities of U.S.-based people. Good clients will wise up and find out who you really are. It's unethical and also a waste of your time.
