Where is the best place to get online training as a new entrepreneur?
I am looking for a place to get structured training to help me learn about starting and running my own business. I have found a lot of material online, but I would like a place that has courses and recommendations on what I should focus on at different stages since I am not sure what priorities I should event set yet. Basically someplace that guides me through the process. Does anyone have any recommendations?
First of all, you need to seek the advice and counsel of professionals. Just because it is on the web or in a training course, doesn't mean that it is right for you.
The US Small Business Administration is one place to start. SCORE (www.SCORE.org), usually collocated with an SBA office is another. The Small Business Development Center located in your area, usually affiliated with a local college or university is another free SBA resource. If you are a veteran, the Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC) for your region is yet another free resource.
Find a business coach is one of the best things to do. Nothing beats experience and advice from someone who has been there, done that and has the scars and the t-shirts to prove it. I always tell my clients what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. That is essential to running a business.
If you are just talking about "general" business requirements, I'd be more inclined to look for local supporting services. Most states/regions have considerable resources (paid for by tax dollars and retired executive volunteers) that can and will do far more than an online course can do.
Caitlin, you don't state whether you are looking for specificially legal and general start-up advice and/or advice on finding your niche market, creating appropriate avenues for marketing once you start, developing delivery systems etc.
I agree that the SBA a and SCORE are excellent places to learn some basic regarding things to consider and have in place before start-up In fact, I often recommend clients start there to get a sense of what business ownership will entail.
Once you get your foundation started however, then you may want to determine if you need specific business coaching to help you grow and sustain a thriving business.
Having an idea and learning how to create a business around it is one part.
Taking that business into the next level and creating a variety of products/services, developing growth systems for sustained revenue and learning where and when to market is another level entirely.
Best of Luck.
There are a number of course sites, one of the better ones is Udemy : http://goo.gl/ZZo9rc, they have a number of free course and often run specials, where the paid courses are reduced tremendously.
Find an online university and take a BCom course.
Short of that, i like:
There are many places to find this information although you can find a lot of good video content on youtube and if you need help contact me.
Thank you Scott
Go right to SCORE.org and in addition find a mentor for free. You'll find advice from starting a busines to selling it and everything in between. Aticles, webinars, classes. Also SBA.org. Good luck!
Here are two sources: (1) www.rushmore.edu - Online MBA in Entrepreneurship Program, and (2) Guidebook to Planning - A Common Sense Approach, available on Amazon.
Sue Glenn's advice is excellent... I am a Score counselor and would be glad to help you through e-mail if you wish, if not go face to face with a Score counselor near you....
I would suggest the FREE learning site, Alison.com Lots of education classes you can learn and yes, you can get a mentor from SCORE.
