How can I create a 3-in-1 product?
I have a 3-in-1 product idea to create a product that includes a workbook, DVD, and poster. To fulfill this type of product, can I hire one person to help me produce everything or do I need to hire three different people for each part? Where do I find the right people? Any help on where to start or recommendations on who to go to is appreciated.
Patty ...All you need is one design person or one marketing communication firm to produce (design) a workbook, DVD and poster. If you are going to "print" physical copies of the workbook and poster, then you'll should hire a printer to print and bind them for you. There are numerous companies that will burn the DVDs for you relatively inexpensively.
If you don't want to assemble your kit of items and ship them out you can hire UPS or a local non-for-profit agency that provides work for the handicap. All you would have to do is provide them with the sales order information and collect the money beside managing the vendors and providing customer service.
This type of arrangement happens all the time.
Patty, here's another thought for either prototyping/test marketing your info product, or an added dimension: make it e-learning. Your content is going to all be digital to start with it's created and edited in various tools. The workbook can be easily pressed as a complete PDF, or broken down into chapters or pages. Others have already commented on using your DVD video as streaming clips from the Internet (also, I want to note, there is still a good reason to press DVDs and that's if your audience isn't online, or some portion isn't). The poster can be a large format image that your users can fulfill themselves, or you can set up, with services like Kinkos. You could create a website with each page dedicated to a chapter of your workbook, where they either directly view the PDF or download, or both, with accompanying links to your pertinent video clips. Or you could upload all into a web-based learning management system and add interactions, tests, etc., as well as control progress and track results, if that is a need. Thsi way you can test your content without the expense of print/media production as well as serve some portion of your audience, most adults audiences are at least 30% online consumers, and if younger, it's 100%. Let me know if I can be of help, been doing this kind of stuff for about 20 years.
Hello Patty , Well Since you have the product ready - All you have to search for one to produce your product Only if he has the experience in three of them other wise you have no choice to ask three different parties to produce your product ,in order to get the maximum quality for your product .
Please be aware that you need to be careful with the treatment of intellectual property rights in such products. Paying third parties to Crete them does not automatically give you the ownership of such rights. Contracts need to be appropriate. Please contact me if you need help.
Always have one person in charge, it may cost more but the buck stops with them and not you
There are many options i.e freelancer at odesk.com and companies ,...and also use social network e.g linkedin
Assuming you already have the content (and creatives) I'd do the DVD at Kunaki and find a local printer for the workbooks and posters. You should be able to keep costs reasonable since you can control production volumes with limited risk via these type suppliers.
So often in trying to answer questions here we have to do a little mind reading as well as a little guessing about what someones needs really are. Maybe someone will invent a 2 in one product that will give us those things.
It would be possible to find one person who could do it all but you would probably be better off doing it with 2. By workbook I am assuming you are talking printed matter and someone who could do that could probably do the poster as well. For the DVD which I assume is a video that would best be done by a second person or firm. You are probably looking at a thousand bucks a minute for a real pro to do the DVD. The workbook and poster should not be expensive. I am saying that without knowing how involved the workbook is.
Since it is a new product and you don't know how successful it would be you might think about doing them yourself for a start and if it takes off having it done more professionally. The software to do those things are not expensive or hard to learn. Of course if you have the conviction and the cash then it is better to do it right from the start.
There are people (and/or companies) who potentially posses the required skills to aid you in all your needs.
If you need business advice you have come to the right place. Their are many business advisers actively contributing their knowledge right here on the hub including myself. You can also hire the skills separately. There are many websites where you can hire workforce but it is always a bit of a gamble to find the right person for the job.
to hire people you might want to look at:
•Elance.com
•Freelancer.com
•Fiverr.com
(Amongst many many others. I myself can usually find who I need on Elance)

On a side note I would like to add that DVD as a video medium is on its exit phase and I would recommend looking to other media to reach the largest public.

This is an excellent point. Streaming video, for example, is both easier and cheaper to distribute, and has a better ability to be tied to marketing campaigns, SEO, etc... You may have specific needs that require DVD format, but make sure that it is a conscious decision based on customer needs.
Daniel's suggestion to contact him in depth is likely wise--before you go out and build something, you should *ALWAYS* evaluate your target market and how best to address their needs. Thorough planning and time spent with an expert upfront can often save you from massive headaches later on.
Good luck!
