My Division of GLOBAL, called Douglas E Castle Consultancy is in the businesses of: 1) comprehensive restructuring and re-focusing of small-to-medium sized companies requiring turnarounds (pre- and post- Chapter 11), creditor arrangements, recalcitrant shareholder settlements and more preferential vendor and employee relationships, and, 2) strategic business planning, creating management teams, mentoring leaders, arranging initial capitalization and financing of ongoing operations and transactions, international M&A/ joint venture creation, agent and distributorship services, entry into emerging markets, and supply chain management for growing entrepreneurial enterprises; and, lastly, 3) negotiating and special agency services for the arrangement of transactions and relationships between recalcitrant,constrained or secretive parties.

What do you like most about your profession?

I like to analyze situations, personalities, solve problems and resolve conflicts. I enjoy creating new relationships and am fascinated with international joint ventures, marketing and supply arrangements.

What questions do clients most commonly ask you? How do you respond?

I am always asked how long an engagement is expected to take, and what interference with the ordinary flow of business should be anticipated. To the first question, my answer must ethically and honestly be "I won't know until I'm entrenched in the engagement itself -- it is a constant learning process accompanied by damage assessments; as to the second, I respond that I will work directly and closely with C-Suite or Board members to keep them advised and informed to minimize any element of surprise, interference or trauma. I harmonize and synergize with my clients, and constant communication is our mutual obligation -- I always insist on emphasizing that point.

Describe a recent client engagement or project.

A series of negotiations for an undisclosed principal (my client) to purchase strategic interests in companies and total outright interests in certain assets.

What are the most important things to consider when hiring a service provider in your field?

The extent to which the provider possesses those attributes.

How are you different than others in your profession?

I get a rapid overview of the problems or requirements facing the client company and I attack them with alacrity and uncompromising focus.

What are your biggest professional influences (books, mentors, events)?

My greatest professional influences, ironically have been my years of martial arts training (Jujitsu, Chow a-Ryu Style), my training as a Board Certified Hypnotherapist, and the vast volumes of books which I have read -- not so much the technical treatises on business, but surprisingly, more of the mysteries, crime-solving and courtroom drama variety involving complex and often conflicted interpersonal relationships. The exception was Malcolm Gladwell's "The Tipping Point," which was one of the most revolutionary and instructive contemporary business books I've had the opportunity to read.

How do you typically handle disagreements with clients?

I command their complete attention, focus and eliminate all distractions; I isolate them, so that it is never more than the two of us alone together; I educate using cause and effect logic and minimize the intrusion of emotion -- but without denying its existence of disrespecting it. I invest the time to have my client come to the conclusion through his or her own reasoning process, which I help to orchestrate.

I still conduct my turnaround, restructuring, negotiating, merger, acquisition and reorganization/ re-engineering work, as well as my structuring of management buyouts, Employee Stock Option Plans and Shareholder negotiations for troubled or judicially-limited small to medium-sized companies (SMEs) through The Castle Consultancy And Advisory, as it was called previously, and as I have done for more than five years. In addition, since The Castle Consultancy And Advisory International has now officially become an unincorporated division of The Global Edge Technologies Group LLC, I have also taken on the responsibilities of overseeing overseas clients, as well as overseeing the operations of ICS - International Connection Services [another "sister" unincorporated subsidiary within Global Edge which provides companies of any size with access to global sourcing, markets, joint ventures and investments as well as with a full range of management, administrative and technical support] for the time being. I am also tasked with the responsibility of locating and qualifying a Managing Director for ICS.

My principal focus (and enjoyment) is on "fixing" SME-sized companies which are "broken," and in arranging strategic transactions for SME-sized companies whose management wishes to grow aggressively either through a campaign of domestic mergers and acquisitions or through opening up new vistas which subsume the global marketplace.

The company is in start-up mode and is assembling the team, resources and platform necessary to become a leading Crowdfunding service provider. The primary objective for the CFI platform is the support of entrepreneurs and worthy causes in raising the funds they need for operations, product development, rapid growth or for start-up capital. In addition to the fundraising platform, we provide crowdfunding project support services as well as content and resources related to financial and business topics for entrepreneurs, innovative leaders and sponsors of cause based fundraising.

My responsibilities range from negotiation of key contracts and terms of joint ventures, generating future trend forecasts, strategic planning to providing thought leadership and content related to crowd funding and alternative finance approaches of value to entrepreneurs.

As a result of my broad background in international finance, banking, my role as chairman within a new non-profit entity, strategic planning and having been an adjunct professor, I bring both academic and real-life experience to bear on each strategic plan and decision for which I am responsible.
