I have been a successful senior business manager across a full range of businesses for a number of years. Operating in the UK and Internationally, across sales, service with operational responsibilities.

I designed and developed a "simple" software application for Business Management to Improve Business Performance, as well as an insurance claim based application for field service billing and time management.

10 Years spent in IT Services industry responsible for (multi million pound) sales and marketing projects as well as launching high end WiFi into the hotels market. Also responsible for major corprate IT moves projects such as Guys and St Thomas, London and British Museum amongst many others

What do you like most about your profession?

There are two very key elements to a successful business - undisputed... People and Communications. Get these "right" and your business stands a great chance of being successful - at the right time in the right market at the right price. Research suggests that we all get some things right but we fail more often in these two key areas. My role in work life puts me on the" front line" in a different situation every time. No two businesses are the same. Experience helps and being able to bring about positive change in these two areas is extremely satisfying.

What questions do clients most commonly ask you? How do you respond?

More than a question - most leaders ask - "Are you going to give me the answers I want to hear"? My answer becomes a question - "what happens if my truth is not the one you want to hear"?

Describe a recent client engagement or project.

I work with leaders of any type of business. Working in High Tech is different from Retail where Product and Change Timings are driving factors. In all cases the people and the communication remains the same. I try not to single out companies or people as their privacy remains a part of the trust mix. If you want a reference just ask.

What are 3 attributes you need to be successful in your industry?

The ability to understand the people I work with. The experience to allow me to offer different solutions (options) to different people in their environment. The ability to remain remote from the Problems whilst keeping an open mind to the challenges.

What are the most important things to consider when hiring a service provider in your field?

Don't be misled by the hype of the "Expert" in the field of business psychology. Knowing that you can quantify the title of a problem does not mean you can fix it. Remember when you are asking for a result that you are the owner of that result and therefore you need to be a part of it.

How are you different than others in your profession?

I have been is a position where my decisions in business have caused me to fail and succeed in the real world. I understand the small business differs from the international one. I understand that there is no hard and fast answer and that things can change overnight. When a business "manager" is looking for a "soft option" - I offer them two choices - one hard and one soft - then discuss the likely outcomes so that their choices ARE the answer.

What are your biggest professional influences (books, mentors, events)?

I work with individuals and only try to help in a general manner in situations like this. Writing books or running events is something others do to make them feel good about themselves - and many are good - very good. My character likes to focus on you.

How do you typically handle disagreements with clients?

Every day is a challenge with a client who is asking for change. I work on the basis that any discussions we have are of a business nature - OBJECTIVE - and that it is ok for us to disagree. If it gets personal - then we both lose.

Describe your proudest professional accomplishment.

I worked with a very successful business director with an IQ in the top 2% quartile. He would be the first to agree that although he could foresee the unforeseeable - he was not the best at getting the message to the people. We turned his business from a product business to a solutions based business in under three years. We turned potential losses into huge profits and built a fantastic team of successful people who all trusted each other. This worked for ten years. It was not about me - it was all about US.

Would you like all of your challenges to turn out right?

Who wouldn't but over time the greatest challenge is finding ways to turn negatives into positives. A mistake is the greatest opportunity for change. The greatest challenge is knowing when to stop and move forward.
