What do you like most about your profession?

Helping entrepreneurs develop successful businesses especially helping clients turn an idea into a viable businesses.

What questions do clients most commonly ask you? How do you respond?

How soon will i be profitable? That is dependent on several factors including the marketplace, the customers and the competitors. The most important thing you should do is to develop a business plan with a break-even analysis that shows when break-even will take place. This will let you know how much of a cash cushion you should have to sustain the business until the business can sustain itself and become profitable. When should I be hiring employees? This is dependent on your sales and how much you can do by yourself. Planning to hire employees should happen before the business is launched but most definitely before the business loses money because the owner is burned out from doing everything. This employee plan is based on the projected sales and the owner knowing that getting help is necessary for consistent growth.

Describe a recent client engagement or project.

Hired to manage human resources for a client with 40 employees. This includes payroll, all benefits administration including medical,dental, vision, STD, LTD, 401(k), FSA and TransitChek. Took on responsibility for the compensation plan, affirmative action policy and the development and maintenance of the employee handbook.

What are 3 attributes you need to be successful in your industry?

(1) Must have a clear understanding of the client's needs. (2) Must have the knowledge, skills and experience to help that client with that particular situation. (3) Must be willing to go above and beyond to achieve complete satisfaction.

What are the most important things to consider when hiring a service provider in your field?

The service provider must have the necessary knowledge and experience. This provider should be willing to offer references, should be patient, flexible and be a strategic thinker.

How are you different than others in your profession?

With respect to writing business plans clients are involved in the entire process. Our competitors write business plans without the involvement of the clients. We recognize that our clients must own their plans so they can shop it and/or defend it.

How do you typically handle disagreements with clients?

Talk it through to understand their point of view. Develop a solution that brings satisfaction.

Describe your proudest professional accomplishment.

Working with an entrepreneur with a business idea and help them develop that idea into a viable business. The feedback received after training entrepreneurs in a variety of business areas.

What should business owners be concerned about?

Their decision-making skills. Business owners should never make a decision that is not an informed one. Business is all about numbers and numbers don't lie. There is no business decision made that doesn't affect the numbers. Always run the numbers before making a decision because a return on investment (ROI) is important and necessary. An uninformed decision can become costly.
