What do you like most about your profession?
I enjoy helping small manufacturers grow their business with current and new accounts.
What questions do clients most commonly ask you? How do you respond?
1) How does one know if they are ready for retail? [Yohan] - One is ready for retail if they have a solid plan in place and know that they can execute well. Any minor slip-ups with a major retailer would cause a small company to go out of business 2) Should I price my products high or low when meeting with a retail buyer? [Yohan] - Always price high - it's easy to come down. If you give a low-ball price and it's accepted by the retailer, it's hard to ask for a cost increase if you get hit with any unexpected increases (i.e. raw materials, labor costs, dollar versus foreign currency, etc....)
Describe a recent client engagement or project.
Working with a client to help them rebuild their brand and assortment with retailers. A 40+ year manufacturer took their "eye off the ball" and lost in-store placement with many accounts. My team and I are working on reversing that trend and have started to see progress from our hard work.
What are 3 attributes you need to be successful in your industry?
Customer Service Focus - always answer your phone or emails promptly Detail Oriented Enthusiastic or Personable
What are the most important things to consider when hiring a service provider in your field?
Past work experiences and significant accomplishments
How are you different than others in your profession?
I have been on BOTH SIDES of the retail buyer's desk. I can see multiple perspectives when working with clients. Most of our competitors only have done one job or the other but not both.
What are your biggest professional influences (books, mentors, events)?
Seth Godin is one of my favorite authors. I have had many good mentors in the retail industry who has shaped me into the consultant that I am today.
How do you typically handle disagreements with clients?
Very professionally of course. I rarely have disagreements with our clients as they hire us for our advice.
Describe your proudest professional accomplishment.
Taking a small client that had no sales and within 4 years, they were in some major retail accounts and recently named as one of INC Magazine Fastest 500 companies
Why would a manufacturer hire Retailbound for their outsourced retail marketing services?
To answer our question with a question - If you are ready to expand your marketing, who’s going to get you into the retail channels that would make the most sense? Who’s going to design, manage, implement and track it all? Your options are to expand staff internally, or to go with outsourcing. If you can save money and access top-flight marketing talent, would you consider it? Have a retail buyer on your team will give you the “insider’s edge” over your competition! That's what Retailbound can do for you!
