Brother is a well-known name in the office equipment industry, and its DSmobile business card scanner is one of the best on the market. The DSmobile 920DW has most of the advanced features of the best business card scanner, and it's one of the few in our review with wireless capabilities. With its compact design and strong build quality, the DSmobile can easily slide into a corporate or home office without major issues. Thanks to its excellent features and performance, the DSmobile 920DW is a great choice for a business card reader.
The DSmobile is big enough to scan full-size documents in addition to business cards. You can even scan more than one business card at a time. This device was able to scan seven individual business cards in a minute when we tested it. This isn't the fastest business card scanner, but it is about average. Other top models that we evaluated had manufacturer-provided scan rates of 10 to 15 pages per minute. As the DSmobile 920DW is the high-end model in Brother’s lineup, its modest scan rates are a slight disappointment, but the scanner makes up for this shortcoming in other areas.
The DSmobile only recognizes English. While you can scan and save documents in other languages, this scanner can't translate their text into English like some other scanners that we reviewed can. With dimensions of 12.1 x 2.6 x 1.6 inches and a weight of 18.7 ounces, the scanner isn’t especially portable, but it can be part of an office printer or desk setup and take up minimal space.
This scanner is compatible with both PC and Mac computers and mobile devices. Because it has a wireless connection option, you can set it up to quickly scan cards wherever you take it without having to deal with a cord and physical connection. The 920DW is one of the few high-end business card scanner models that has this functionality, making it a versatile option for offices with multiple employees using the scanner. Each business card scans in full color, with most defining lines and finishes captured in detail. The DSmobile easily scans business cards printed on thick materials, including cardstock, plastic, wood and cork.
The DSmobile has all the essential features of a good scanner, including duplexing, or the ability to scan both the front and back sides of each business card in one pass, and auto-populating text fields with contact information from the card. Scanned images include most details from the business card, including specialty details such as foil inks and dark backgrounds.
The accompanying software is easy to install and gives you an online contact program to help you keep all the information in one place. Scanned images and extracted text can be saved and shared with other programs, including CRM solutions, Microsoft Word and Excel, and email programs such as Outlook and Gmail. The only applications this card reader doesn't connect to are social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, so it can't auto-populate information on those pages for you.
You get the standard suite of support options with the Brother DSmobile scanner. Brother offers both telephone and email support. We received quick responses to our email inquiries from support personnel, who ensured all of our questions were accurately answered. Both a digital copy of the user guide and a FAQs section are easy to find on the Brother website for reference. We found several answers to our questions using both. The DSmobile business card scanner comes with the industry-standard one-year warranty.
The Brother DSmobile 920DW is a great business card scanner that you can set up anywhere, since it has a wireless connection option. It scans each card or full-sized document in full color, with enough detail that even cards with specialty designs and finishes, such as foil ink, are still easy to read. It automatically takes contact information from the digital images and enters it into text fields to create a permanent contact, which you can save or share. The Brother DSmobile also connects to your email, Microsoft Office applications and CRM solutions, making it even more versatile.
