CalAmp is a GPS fleet tracking service with a multitude of features to monitor safety, route information, maintenance and fuel consumption for your company's vehicles. It has easy-to-use software and a contract time that's shorter than usual in this industry.
This vehicle tracking system is able to track the routes your drivers take and the stops they make in your vehicles. Breadcrumb trails are available, and they can give you an in-depth view of the history of a vehicle or route, including your drivers' behavior. The breadcrumb trails on CalAmp's software were the easiest to follow out of all of the breadcrumb trails we saw in our evaluation of GPS vehicle tracking software. While most companies only provide a map view of a breadcrumb trail, CalAmp included a detail list of events on the trail, so it is extremely easy to navigate and understand what has happened with your vehicles within a specified amount of time.
This fleet tracking system is also able to track safety information, such as speeding, harsh braking, acceleration and whether or not your drivers are wearing their seatbelts. Its hardware can also track fuel consumption and idling times. You can set up custom maintenance alerts with this system so that you can stay on schedule with things like oil changes, tire rotations and more. If there is ever a problem with your vehicle, the hardware provided by CalAmp also provides engine fault codes so that your mechanics can easily identify what's wrong in your vehicle. While CalAmp does not have a typical driver ID option with its hardware, your drivers can identify themselves with a mobile app that syncs with this service's software.
In our testing, we found that this vehicle tracking software was among the easiest to use. Its reports were fairly easy to read, with comprehensive information and charts available. There were no easy-to-scan graphs available on the reports, but you can customize each report to give you the exact data you need.
CalAmp's hardware is hidden from drivers. It also does not require professional installation. When you sign up for CalAmp's services, you must sign a contract for 12 months. This time period is two years shorter than the average industry contract time. There is no startup fee to worry about when signing up for this service. If you cancel your contract early, however, there is a cancellation fee for each vehicle you were tracking.
You can reach CalAmp by telephone or email, as well as via a contact form on its website. When we reached out to CalAmp's customer service, we were disappointed. Agents didn't return our phone calls or emails, and when we did get a hold of representatives, they couldn't answer our questions and sent us to the wrong places to get answers.
CalAmp has the majority of the features most customers look for in a GPS fleet tracking service. It has easy-to-use software and a short contract time. While its customer service was lacking, its features and understandable breadcrumb trail information make it an attractive option for a GPS fleet tracking service.
