Capital One Wallet is a free mobile wallet app that you can download on your Apple or Android phone and use with your credit and debit cards from Capital One Bank and Capital One 360. Using the app, you can tap and pay for the purchases you make at retail locations that have contactless card readers, and you can also use it to track your spending and view your transactions. For full mobile access and usability of your Capital One accounts, you can use the wallet app in conjunction with Capital One Mobile App, which you can use to manage your accounts and pay bills.

The Verdict

Capital One Wallet has several handy features that help you keep track of your credit and debit card spending. For each transaction, it shows you the merchant's name, contact information and address with a corresponding map. It also allows you to take a photo of your paper receipts and attach them to the appropriate transactions. This can be a useful feature for your budgeting and expensing purposes or for returning an item when you didn't save the paper copy of the receipt.

For security, the electronic wallet the app doesn't store your financial or personal information on your phone and logs you out automatically after several minutes of nonuse. You can choose to use SureSwipe or Touch ID to sign in instead of a PIN, and the app alerts you with instant notifications when transactions are made on your card.

If you use Capital One Wallet on an iPhone, you can digitally store up to 25 gift cards on the wallet app. The digital wallet tracks the balance for many of the cards and allows you to manually add the card balance for the gift cards it can't track.

Capital One Wallet is a good option if your most frequently used cards are from Capital One. The downside of this mobile wallet is that it only works with credit and debit cards issued by Capital One Bank and Capital One 360. This is understandable but somewhat limits the wallet app's usefulness, if, like most people, you have several cards from several different issuers that you'd like to be able to access and use from a single mobile wallet.
