DataTech Labs has the expertise and a certified cleanroom to recover data from an extensive list of media types: RAID systems, operating systems and file types. While it doesn't have DIY recovery software like the best RAID recovery services we reviewed, its technicians can perform remote recoveries for scenarios when your data has been lost to viruses, accidental deletions and reformatting. DataTech's customer service was the least consistent in our review.

The Best RAID Recovery Services and Hardware of 2019

The Verdict

DataTech Labs has the skills and experience necessary to recover data from any device you have, but the customer service is lacking, and there's no SSAE 16 audit of the data privacy and security practices.

Only half of the RAID recovery services in our review were able and willing to prove that their cleanrooms were certified by a third-party organization, and DataTech Labs was one of these services. It provided proof that its cleanroom had been certified as ISO 5 Class 100 compliant, although it does not post this certification publicly, which hurts the service's transparency.

An ISO 5 Class 100 cleanroom must have less than 100,000 particles per square meter. For comparison, on average, there are more than 35 million particles per square meter of space. Proof that a cleanroom is certified is critical to gaining customers' trust, because it's far too easy for a service to claim it has a proper cleanroom even if it doesn't.

The biggest concern we had with DataTech Labs is the lack of consistency with its customer service. In our tests, it scored just 50 percent. For this industry, customer service is essential to building trust with you before you hand over your RAID system.

We asked its customer service representatives a series of questions, posing as anonymous contacts. Then we compared the responses. The biggest issue with DataTech's customer service wasn't the contradictions but the lack of answers. Too often, they'd answer only one or two questions or wouldn't respond to the query at all. From a consumer's perspective, we felt neglected and ignored. When we contacted the service as Business.com, the response was consistent and timely.

Another certification this service lacks is proof of an SSAE 16 security audit. This is the industry standard for any service that handles data. Proof of an SSAE 16 audit is intended to assure customers the service has the necessary data privacy and security procedures in place. While it's not necessary, such audits are confirmation from a third-party organization that your data will be safe.

With DataTech Labs, you get expert RAID recovery technicians that can recover data from all types of storage media, and you'll receive a free evaluation. It's one of only five services in our review with a certified ISO 5 Class 100 cleanroom, but the service lacks SSAE 16 certification. However, the biggest concern is the lack of customer service consistency, in which DataTech scored the lowest among the companies on our list.
