EaseUS Review

By Andreas RiveraLast Modified: January 5, 2018

As a slogan, EaseUS develops software to "make your life easy." It's clear from this app's reliability and design that this is a priority. Todo Backup Home is one of the easiest PC backup programs to use in our review. With a simple interface that prioritizes basic functions over advanced features, it is an app that anyone can use. In addition, its overall performance was generally very good in our tests, only ranking as average in a few categories.

For our comparison of PC backup software, we tested all of the apps using the same data on the same computer so the results could be used in an apples-to-apples comparison. When we backed up and restored our computer, we recorded speed, CPU usage and data compression rates. In addition, we also closely evaluated both processes for ease of use, counting the numbers of steps, the number of options in each step and how well the interface guides the user. PC backup software should be easy for people with no experience to use to protect their computers.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home's backup process is one of the easiest to navigate, and it earned an A grade. There are only four steps and no options in between, which leaves very little room for user error. You simply choose the data you want to back up and where you want it to go. You then set the compression and encryption levels, and your backup set is ready. The interface has a minimalist design and is very easy to navigate – the five backup options are right on the homepage.

The program received an A- for its backup speed. It recorded an average speed of 1.49GB per minute, which is just 400MB per minute short of the fastest speed in our review. If you backed up 1TB of data at this speed, it would take just 11.18 hours to complete. By comparison, the fastest app in our review would complete the same backup set only an hour faster. On the other hand, the slowest software in our tests would take more than 64 hours to complete the same backup, so an hour difference is hardly worth mentioning.

In our tests, EaseUS Todo Backup Home used an average of 10.18 percent of our CPU, which earned it a B+. This means it has a very small resource footprint compared to most of the products we reviewed, so it shouldn’t cause your computer to slow down. That said, it's worth noting that our test computer has a quad-core processor and 16GB of RAM, so it’s more powerful than the average home computer.

Todo Backup Home received a B grade for compressing our test data by an average of 3.81 percent. This was above average, as most apps compressed below 1.5 percent, but it wasn’t impressive. The best rate in our tests was 9.6 percent. If you backed up 1TB of data, Todo Backup Home would save you about 38.1GB of space, while the other would save you 96GB of storage. That said, compression potential varies by file type, so you could experience better or worse results. The point of our tests was to show how every app compressed the same data.

EaseUS Todo Backup's restore process received a B for ease of use. Similar to the backup process, it is very straightforward with just three to four steps. However, it didn’t receive as high a grade because it failed to restore all of the data during one of our rounds of testing, and it is only useful to back up data if you can restore it. Eventually, we were able to restore the full data set, but it took several failed attempts.

As for performance, the restore speed and CPU usage were better than average, but not by much. The software received a C+ for speed, while CPU usage receive a B-. In the restore sets, it recorded an average speed of 1.13GB per minute. This was twice as slow as the fastest restore speed in our review. CPU usage was at 24.25 percent, on average. However, in terms of priority, both benchmarks are less important than the backup performances because you’re not likely to need the restore tools often.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home might be aimed at novices, but it’s also loaded with advanced features that make it a great option for advanced users. You can choose between incremental and differential backup schemes, as well as create full-system backups and disk-image backups. You can even migrate your entire system to a new computer, split large images and back up to Google Drive.

You have the option to protect your data with encryption. However, there is only one encryption option. The app doesn’t list the security level, but the website suggests it is 256-bit encryption.

EaseUS has multiple support options available. You can get help through live chat and an email ticket system, which is available 24/7. The company also provides a 30-day guarantee, which means there’s no risk on your end – if you don’t like the app, you can get your money back. Not many PC backup apps offer this. However, EaseUS doesn’t have phone support. That said, phone support is steadily becoming an oddity in the software industry.

To help you make the most of the software, the developer provides resources to help you master the tools and minimize learning curves. The website features a FAQs page, complete product manuals, a solution guide, a user forum and tutorials.

EaseUS Todo Backup Home is among the easiest PC backup apps available. Even though the interface is simple and easy to navigate, the app doesn’t skimp on advanced features, making it a versatile PC backup solution. The backup performance was excellent, and the program recorded one of the fastest backup speeds in our tests, a low average CPU usage and an above-average compression rate. The restore process was less impressive but nothing to balk at. Overall, this is one of the best PC backup software for average computer users.
