Epos Now - Android POS Review

By Business.com Editorial StaffLast Modified: December 18, 2017

Epos Now is new to the U.S., having opened its Orlando, Florida, office in 2016. It's a U.K.-based company, with offices in London, Manchester, Norwich and Glasgow. Though the company's focus is on small and midsized businesses, large companies can also use its software, and it lists Universal Studios, Walt Disney Pictures and Yankee Candle among its clientele. It offers two versions of its POS software, one for retail and one for hospitality, making it usable for most business types.

This company's Android POS software has a strong selection of features, is competitively priced with flexible terms, and can be used with multiple payment processing companies as well as third-party hardware.

You're not required to sign a lengthy contract when you work with Epos Now; rather, you can choose to work with the company on a month-to-month basis, allowing you to close your account without incurring an expensive cancellation fee if you find a better deal elsewhere or the system isn't meeting your needs. The company has two subscription plans for its POS software and posts its pricing online. The Standard plan costs $39 per month and the Premium costs $69 per month, and each supports a single register, with support for more registers available at an additional cost. If you prefer to purchase the software license instead of a subscription, it costs $750, though you'll also need to pay for an annual licensing fee and a service plan.

You can use Epos Now's Android POS software alongside any credit card processing service, though if you want to work with a processor that integrates with the system, you'll need an account with Vantiv. If you already own POS hardware, you may be able to use it with Epos Now, as this Android POS system is compatible with third-party hardware. You can purchase equipment through Epos Now or a third-party vendor. The company offers equipment leasing and rental, but you should be aware that it's always more cost-effective to buy your POS hardware outright.

Epos Now includes a good selection of features. With its reporting tools, you can see your sales per hour, which helps you identify your busiest days and times so you can staff accordingly. Its stock management reports help you identify your best-selling products and those with the highest profit margins so you can optimize your product mix. You can export your reports into another program as Excel spreadsheets.

The software also includes inventory management tools. You can set minimum stock alerts so the system can automatically generate purchase orders when you fall below a certain number of items for any product, saving you time. It has customer management tools that you can use to collect contact information that you can use with marketing integrations available through Epos Now's app store, such as MailChimp. If you want to offer a loyalty program to your customers, you can add its loyalty module, though it costs extra and pricing for this add-on isn't posted on the company's website.

The system allows you to set permissions for your employees and assign PIN codes. It also has scheduling tools and a built-in time clock so your employees can clock in and out through the POS system. If you want to give your customers the option of online ordering, integrations are available from the app store.

You can reach the company for customer support via email or phone, though you'll need the Platinum plan for 24/7 phone and priority email support. The company offers live chat through its website, and our inquiries were promptly answered when we used it to contact the company as part of our testing. If you need help setting up the system and migrating your data from an older system, the company can assist you with that during the 30-day implementation included with your account. Remote assistance is also available should you experience a software issue, and you can have replacement parts shipped to you overnight if you have an equipment failure.

Epos Now is among the best Android POS systems we reviewed, thanks to its strong mix of features, competitive pricing and flexible terms. You can work with the company on a monthly basis and use it alongside the credit card processing service of your choice, and if you already own processing equipment, you may be able to continue using it. It comes with tools for reporting and inventory, employee and customer management, and its automatic purchase ordering feature may save you time. However, if you need 24/7 phone support, you'll need to subscribe to the Platinum plan, and although you can use Epos Now alongside any processor, it only integrates with Vantiv.
