Fax.com is a month-to-month online fax service that costs $9.99 a month, which is low compared to some of the charges in our review. However, it charges an account setup fee of $9.99, whereas most of the companies in our review do not charge a setup fee. The monthly plan gives you 300 pages to both receive and send faxes. If you exceed 300 pages in a month, you have to pay 12 cents a page, which is the highest overage fee in our review.
This online fax service lets you send faxes through your email account or the online program. Both methods are user friendly with very little learning curve. You should be able to start faxing immediately. Because this is an online platform, you can access your faxes regardless of where you are, as long as you have an internet connection. Fax.com is available on a computer or mobile device, though it doesn't have a designated app.
You can add electronic signatures to your faxes and sync your account with Microsoft Outlook, which makes sending emails as faxes easier. Faxing to anywhere in the United States and Canada is included in your monthly fee; faxing internationally costs extra, though the charge is comparable to fees charged by the other services we evaluated. You can't schedule faxes for future delivery, nor can you send faxes to multiple recipients at once, which can be inconvenient.
Upon signing up for Fax.com, you can choose a local or toll-free fax number. All faxes you receive can be stored in this service's database for up to 30 days, though many of the companies in our review store faxes for the length of your relationship with them. Keep in mind, however, that you can see all of your faxes in your email, so the short-term storage shouldn't be much of a problem.
The customer support this service offers is thorough. You can't reach representatives via live chat, but you can email or call Fax.com with any problems you have. When our testers reached out to the service, our questions were answered thoroughly. If you'd rather find the answers to your problems on your own, you can look through online video tutorials and the searchable FAQs page on Fax.com.
Fax.com has a minimal learning curve, so you can start sending faxes as soon as your account setup is complete. This service does lack some of the advanced features that higher-ranked companies provide, and it is more expensive, but it's still a good choice for a simple online fax service.
