The company claims to operate with class 10 ISO 4 cleanrooms for one of the safest recovery processes available and can provide discounted pricing to several different organizations.

The Best Hard Drive Recovery Services of 2019

The Verdict

FileRecoup boasts dozens of state-of-the-art facilities for fast and efficient data recovery on just about any kind of storage media. One of the biggest downsides is the lack of a no data, no cost guarantee.

View all our recommendations for hard drive recovery services on our best picks page.

Pricing

FileRecoup's pricing is based on a case-by-case basis with no flat rates. They first analyze your storage device before giving you a detailed pricing breakdown and turnaround timeframe. It will depend on the type of storage medium, the type of damage and how much data you need recovered. According to the service, their average turnaround for typical cases is two to five business days with their standard service. You can also request emergency service for an additional fee when you need your data recovered as soon as possible.

The service offers discounted pricing for certain groups including educational institutions, computer repair shops, NGOs, IT staff, hospitals and military organizations.

Evaluation Process

FileRecoup has dozens of locations around the country, allowing you to quickly ship your media or drop it off, although their recommended way of getting your device in for evaluation is a free courier pickup. When the courier comes to pick up the drive, you don't have to remove it from your computer or server as they'll do it for it. The evaluation itself is free, however for the recovery process they do not have a no data, no cost policy, meaning that you may have to pay for the service even if the recovery comes up with little or no results.

Your case will be assigned a dedicated representative who will handle all the details of your case and answer all your questions. They'll be your go-to contact to get updates on your recovery job and they will reach out to you in the case of any complications.

This service can recover several different devices including RAID servers, solid state drives, mobile devices and virtual machines.

Recovery Environment

FileRecoup touts a class 10 ISO 4 cleanroom, one of the best levels of clean environments. This ranking means the environment only has 10 particles per cubic foot, making for a higher chance of recovery from exposed platters. While this is impressive, the service doesn't publicly post their certification for view. We prefer a level of transparency on the consumer level from services, especially ones that claim to offer a recovery environment that few other companies possess.

Recovered data can be sent to you either on an external drive that you provide the service, or you can purchase one from them.

Security Features

FileRecoup promises to keep your data confidential and secure; however, there is no indication that the service holds an SSAE certification, which ensures they meet stringent security and privacy standards. The service is a licensed GSA government contractor, which requires the service to upkeep several privacy standards such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST). Certain government organizations are eligible for a discount as well.
