Running your business is difficult, and keeping your books may be one of the most difficult parts of owning a business. This is especially true if you don’t know anything about accounting. With that in mind, FreeAgent has created its accounting software to be as easy as possible. The getting started process is relatively problem free, if not as comprehensive as other services. You have access to some video tutorials when you first open the software, and they are all very helpful for those using bookkeeping software for the first time.
The interface helps you through the first time you do anything pertaining to basic accounting tasks, like adding bills, tracking expenses and creating new clients. These processes are also easy to do, so you shouldn’t have much trouble performing without the added help. You can also create and track invoices with ease, adding customizable features such as discounts and tying them to specific projects. The downside to this process is the fact that it takes place over several pages, making navigation clumsy and inconvenient, especially when you want to make last-minute adjustments.
Adding new clients to your account within FreeAgent’s small business accounting software is easy, and managing those clients is just as easy. However, you cannot add vendors or track purchase orders with FreeAgent, which may be a problem for you if you rely on that functionality in your industry. Rather than add vendors, you add a contact, then add expenses to that contact, which is a very limited feature. You can still manage your inventory through FreeAgent, but this service is also limited in customization when compared to other cloud-based accounting software. If you manage inventory or services on a regular basis, you may get a little frustrated with the process as the inventory section is not featured directly on the dashboard.
FreeAgent only offers a single version of its online accounting software, which may limit you as your business starts to grow. You can, however, add an unlimited amount of users to your profile and control what level of access each user has.
Support through FreeAgent comes in the form of the standard phone and email channels, along with an online knowledgebase that is a reasonable size. The company also offers access to webinars geared toward helping you learn the software, which is extremely helpful for first-time users. Past that, though, there is a clear lack of continuing business education to help you better form accounting strategies and increase your accounting knowledge.
This accounting software works great for small businesses and individuals looking to officially track their expenses and clients. Larger businesses may suffer from the lack of advanced accounting features, but FreeAgent’s simple interface helps you perform basic accounting tasks with ease.
