Genesis HR is a PEO that takes administrative tasks, like HR support, payroll processing and tax compliance, off your plate so you can focus on running your business. It can handle all your HR management, payroll, benefits, risk management and support needs. Genesis offers extensive training resources in addition to its PEO services offerings. Clients can expect both onsite and online training on a range of topics, from workplace safety to effective communication and management styles. Genesis HR does have an employee minimum for its services. Businesses looking to partner with Genesis will need at least 10 employees on payroll to get services with the company. This isn't out of the ordinary for a PEO, but Genesis HR's minimum is higher than some other companies we reviewed.

Genesis HR received five-star customer reviews on Google, but it doesn't have a Facebook reviews section and a Better Business Bureau page. Despite limited customer reviews, Genesis is accredited by the Employer Services Assurance Corporation (ESAC) and is certified by the IRS. This provider is smaller than other PEOs we evaluated (a benefit, however, is that you get more personalized service from a PEO). However, it may not be operating in your state: Genesis provides PEO services in more than 45 states, but confirm with a company representative that it can provide its services to your business.

Genesis HR Pricing and Terms

Genesis HR charges its clients on a per-employee basis. Most PEO services either charge per employee or as a percentage of total payroll. The best model depends on your business's needs, but an advantage to being charged per employee is your fees won't change as your overall payroll fluctuates. The per-employee fee is a flat fee that likely doesn't include any added healthcare or benefits costs.

To get Genesis HR's other services, you have to sign up for payroll processing and workers' compensation at a minimum. Many companies require businesses to enroll in one or two areas of their service and then allow small businesses to mix and match the other services. It's not clear if you're able to mix and match services with Genesis, but you have the option to sign up for those two services at a minimum and still receive PEO support.

This PEO provides flexible contracts – you aren't locked into a long-term contract. Some companies we evaluated offer yearly service or year-long contracts. Most allow you to cancel without incurring fees with 30 days' written notice, but it's nice to know that with Genesis you aren't locked into a long-term deal at all. Genesis also abides by the 30-day written notice for cancellation.

Genesis can provide your business with personal and tailored support. It's been serving companies in New England and across the country for more than 20 years. According to a NAPEO white paper, only a few companies dominate the entire PEO industry – five companies account for 43% of the industry. Because Genesis is a smaller company, it can provide you with personalized support.

Features

Genesis HR's services extend well through HR, benefits and payroll. IT also provides a complete risk and compliance offering that includes OSHA reporting, claim resolution and workers' compensation.

  • HR Services: Genesis HR offers multiple human resource solutions, including consultants who can help you develop company policies, such as paid time off policies and regulatory policy. They can also help your business with company handbooks, compensation planning, onboarding and recruiting, performance management, and conducting employee surveys. Genesis also provides a cloud-based HR management platform, so you can access important company materials at any time. This is only the beginning of Genesis HR support.   • Benefits: Genesis customizes employee benefits to your company, and analyzes different plans based on your state and what's best for your business. They handle insurance carrier relationships, invoicing, negotiating renewals, and compliance with ACA and other healthcare laws. Costs vary based on the size of your business and the state your business is in.   • Payroll: This PEO provides an online payroll processing platform for your business, and offers standard compliance with state and federal taxes and labor laws. You can track paid time off, sick time and other time clock solutions. Genesis provides W-2 preparation and can handle state unemployment insurance tax account management.   • Risk and Compliance: Genesis HR offers workers' compensation, claims management, return-to-work programs, OSHA reporting and compliance, onsite safety inspections, and development of risk and safety policies. Genesis will also coordinate and handle medical billing between insurance carriers and employees. They provide safety training and can assist with transitional job development. Customer Service

Genesis provides designated consultants to help manage your payroll, HR, benefits and risk management needs. You can reach out for support and advice on topics ranging from best HR practices to payroll help and support. Many PEO companies provide an account manager who facilitates your services with other in-house experts. Genesis is one of the few that will hand you their experts' numbers. This means you work directly with representatives as questions arise.

We set up a hypothetical business and interacted with Genesis HR sales representatives to experience firsthand the company's customer service. We interacted with Genesis mainly over email. In all instances, the company was informative about its service offerings. It answered all of our questions and didn't push for a sale. This level of service was standard among other PEOs we reviewed.

Training

The training resources Genesis provides is one of the features that distinguishes it from other PEOs. It offers both onsite and online training for a range of topics that include workplace safety, management, harassment avoidance and effective interviewing techniques. It can tailor different programs to your business.

It's also very transparent about its training. Many companies we reviewed lump their training into vague language, like "manager" or "supervisor training." Genesis is one of the few companies that provides details and examples of the training it provides. Whether you need specific safety-oriented training or HR-related training for various in-office topics, Genesis has you covered.

Limitations

Genesis has fewer support avenues compared to some other services we reviewed. Business owners can contact the company via phone or email, but there isn't a live chat option. There is, however, an FAQ page with solid information for SMBs.
