Features

Billing

iSalus offers a strong list of tools to streamline the billing process for your staff, which is especially important when you're managing billing in-house. The medical billing process can be arduous and time-consuming, so software that makes it as easy as possible to submit and track claims is essential.

  • Patient insurance eligibility verification: One of the key features we looked for in practice management software was the ability to verify patient insurance eligibility prior to an appointment. iSalus' tool allows you to check coverage, copayment requirements and coinsurance before a patient arrives for their visit.
  • Charge capture: iSalus makes charge capture and claims coding easy with a tool that helps staff turn services into claims ready for submission. The software is ICD-10 compatible.
  • Claims submission: iSalus says it has a 98 percent clean claims rate on the first pass. It submits primary and secondary claims through its own clearinghouse and allows billers to scrub those claims for errors prior to submission. It tracks and updates claim status in real time, allowing your staff to easily manage denied claims in one window.
  • Fee schedules: iSalus lets staff upload fee schedules for specific payers, helping them keep track of precisely what to bill each payer for which services. This tool can streamline the decision-making process and help your practice collect every dollar it is entitled to.

Scheduling

The iSalus iScheduler tool is a color-coded, user-friendly way to coordinate your practice's calendar of appointments, meetings and tasks in a central location. It also includes other useful tools like patient data validation.

  • Color-coded scheduler: iScheduler is easy to navigate and organized by provider and location. One-click functionality allows staff to add and change appointments and tasks accordingly.
  • Real-time alert notifications: The software alerts staff when tasks are due or appointments are getting close, with popup notifications showing text written by the users.
  • Faxing: Built-in faxing allows staff to send documents generated on the clinical side to other points of care, such as labs and pharmacies.
  • Custom fields: You can adapt the calendar and day-to-day agenda to the specific workflow of your practice.

Implementation and Training

iSalus' implementation process can take up to 60 days, which is quick by industry standards, and the company will expedite its process even further if your practice needs to be up and running in a shorter timeframe. For billing, iSalus typically requires 2-4 weeks before a practice can begin submitting claims electronically. You will need to be credentialed appropriately with the correct payers, which can take some time as well.

For an additional $95 per hour, iSalus will import data from your existing system, including patient demographics, payer lists, clinical data on patients, appointments and fee schedules. With the premium package, it does imports for no additional cost. During implementation, iSalus will also build custom templates for up to four hours for standard package users and eight hours for premium package users.

Limitations

In our experience, iSalus' customer service was slow to respond, and we were unable to obtain a ballpark price quote by press time. Moreover, iSalus sometimes charges additional fees for certain services in the implementation phase that we found are included in startup costs with other companies. These limitations are relatively minor.
