Kounta's Android POS system can be used by both retail and restaurant businesses, with either one or several locations, and is scalable, so it can expand as your business grows. There's no contract requirement with Kounta, as it provides its software on a month-to-month basis, so you can cancel your account at any time without incurring an expensive cancellation fee.

The Verdict

Kounta is a good Android POS system with a solid mix of features and flexible terms, but the lack of U.S. payment processing integrations is inconvenient.

It posts its pricing online and offers four service plans for its software. The Lite plan is free, but it's limited to one device and 10 transactions a day, making it a good option if you want to take the software for a test run before you commit. The Sell plan costs $50 per location per month and is designed for smaller businesses. It supports one device and includes inventory, basic reporting and CRM features. The Manage plan costs $100 per location per month, supports two devices, and comes with staff management, marketing, advanced reporting and restaurant features. The Extend plan supports three devices, and you can add more for $25 per device per month. It also includes access to Kounta's REST API.

You can use Kounta alongside the credit card processing service of your choice. However, it doesn't integrate with any U.S. processors, so you're limited to using it alongside your processing terminal, which is less convenient than an integrated solution. There's no hardware purchase requirement with Kounta, and its Android app is compatible with Epson receipt printers, standard cash drawers and Bluetooth barcode scanners, which you can purchase from Kounta or the third-party vendor of your choice.

Kounta has most of the management features we looked for in our review. It includes reporting, though you'll need the Manage or Extend plans if you want advanced reporting. You can view your sales per hour, which is useful when you're scheduling your staff so you can plan for your busy times, and it also shows you your best sellers and most profitable items. If you need to export report data, you can do so as CSV files.

Inventory management tools are included with Kounta, and there's no limit to the number of products you can add to this Android POS system. You can add modifiers and variants to items, and you can also bundle multiple items together, which is a useful feature if you sell gift baskets or if your business is a restaurant and you want to track products on an ingredient level. Although you can view stock levels, the system doesn't send you low-inventory alerts. It does, however, assist you with purchase orders, and you can create and email them from the system. Integrations are available for Kounta, which can be useful if you want to add more capabilities to the system or to connect to other programs, such as your accounting software.

If you need help using Kounta, you can email the company or post your questions on the community support forum. You can reach customer support by phone with the Manage and Extend plans, but if you need help after hours or have an issue that requires remote assistance, you'll need to contact a Kounta Partner, which may cost extra.

Kounta is a good POS system for use with Android tablets and phones. It includes a strong selection of features, and integrations are available if you want to augment it with additional tools. There's no contract requirement, and it works with third-party hardware. Although you can use it with the credit card processing service of your choice, it can only be used alongside it, which is less convenient than some of the more advanced systems that can integrate with processors.
