NCR Silver Pro Restaurant is a good POS system with high-quality customer service. This company offers free remote setup, training on new features twice a year, an hour of menu maintenance each month and 24/7 support. NCR Silver also has many of the features we looked for in restaurant POS systems, though it is missing some of the features that the best POS solutions offer, such as ingredient-level inventory management.

The Verdict

While NCR Silver Pro Restaurant offers many useful restaurant tools, it lacks several helpful features that many restaurants will miss.

This company is upfront with its pricing; you can find this information on its website. Monthly subscription fees for NCR Silver Pro Restaurant begin at $149 a month. The company’s pricing transparency is admirable, giving you an idea of whether or not the system is in your price range. Its monthly charge is higher than many of its competitors’, which is something to consider if you have a tight budget. Additionally, you have to sign a lengthy contract and may have to purchase or lease specific hardware. For example, although Apple users can use iPads with the system, Android users must use Silver Register; third-party Android tablets are not compatible. NCR Silver is compatible with multiple payment processors, however.

While the system is overall suitable for full-service restaurants, it's missing some key features, such as reservation management and menu item images. The software doesn’t time how long it takes tables to turn, which might be an inconvenience to managers who are trying to monitor the attention servers pay to tables.

NCR Silver tracks the time it takes for an order to be served after it's been ordered, supports online ordering, and manages table seating. It also accommodates customer notes on their orders and has catering and delivery features for managing this side of your business.

NCR Silver doesn't allow you to enter inventory by scanning barcodes with handheld devices. It doesn't track ingredient inventory either, which is inconvenient because you’ll have to find other means for keeping track of your stock. This system doesn’t manage any vendor information, which would be helpful for reordering supplies. However, it has an item countdown feature that shows your servers how many servings of limited-item dishes are available to order.

This restaurant POS system shines in its customer support department. It offers remote assistance as well as on-site support as needed for installation and training. It can also ship replacement parts to you overnight if you have a hardware failure. Integrations and APIs are available as well, which allow you to customize your POS system.

NCR Silver offers helpful order management features, including catering, online ordering and delivery management. However, it lacks several important features that we looked for in the best restaurant POS services, and its monthly subscription fees begin at the high end of the spectrum for the systems we reviewed. Still, with its robust customer support and the option to customize the system with integrations, it's POS software worth considering.
