NueMD is focused on medical billing services for small and midsize practices. The company claims it has raised revenue by 5 percent on average for its clients in the first two months of handling their revenue cycle management (RCM). NueMD requires practices to sign a one-year contract and does have modest setup fees associated with medical billing services. Those fees vary depending on your practice's size, specialty and volume. Its pricing is similarly variable and based on a percentage of your net monthly collections.

The Best Medical Billing Service Providers of 2019

The Verdict

NueMD is a strong service that can handle many medical billing tasks, and its full suite of customizable software and free assessment ensure you get the best fit for your practice's billing needs.

View all our recommendations for medical billing software on our best picks page.

This company can handle most medical billing tasks and works with your practice closely to keep you informed of your practice's financial health. NueMD also includes access to its electronic health record (EHR) and practice management software as part of its medical billing service. It is a good-quality service that is customizable to your practice's specific needs, though it's less comprehensive than some of the services focused on larger companies in our review.

Billing Process

NueMD begins the billing process at the claims generation and coding phase. The company keeps trained coders on staff to ensure your claims are properly coded under ICD-10 standards. After claims are created, NueMD scrubs for errors prior to submission. If it catches any issues, it revises and then submits the claim.

Inevitably, some claims will be denied or rejected by clearinghouses and payers. You can expect NueMD to follow up and resubmit those claims. It will also follow up on any unpaid claims that have languished without response, aiming to deliver payment to your practice for claims within 30 days of their initial submission.

NueMD will post any payments to your account through the practice management software, as well as any explanations of benefits or electronic remittance advice received from payers. It also generates patient statements for any obligations your patients have beyond their insurance coverage and follows up with unpaid accounts.

Pricing

NueMD does not post pricing on its website because of its variability from practice to practice. Pricing is based on your practice's size, specialty, number of providers, number of patient encounters and monthly volume. There are also modest setup fees associated with NueMD's RCM service, although that number will vary depending on the specifics of your practice as well.

It's worth noting that since NueMD's acquisition by AdvancedMD, the pricing tab on the webpage redirects to AdvancedMD's website. This could indicate that NueMD will abide by AdvancedMD's pricing model moving forward. To find out more about that model, read our full review of AdvancedMD's medical billing service.

Software

NueMD offers its own suite of practice management and EHR software that it customizes based on your practice's needs. With the software, you can perform tasks like scheduling appointments or verifying a patient's insurance. The EHR software offers a patient portal, which lets patients check up on their own health records and schedule appointments. There is also a HIPAA-compliant mobile app for both Apple and Android devices. The app has basic functions like the ability for you to capture charges on the go and view upcoming appointments.

NueMD's EHR software is tailored to the specific needs of your practice. It can be configured for more than 100 different specialties, which sets it apart as a leader in the EHR industry. To find out more about NueMD's EHR software, see our full review.

Support

You can reach NueMD representatives by email, phone or live chat. The company also provides several online resources that allow you to find answers on your own, including some basic FAQs. For new clients, this medical biller offers one-on-one training with an assigned trainer, including an optional onsite consultation.

One of NueMD's standout features is its personalized assessments of your office. Before you agree to use the service, the company will do a full assessment of your practice, free of charge, evaluating your finances, technology, workflow and other factors that can affect your practice. It then creates a plan to meet your practice's specific needs. With this medical billing company, you will not receive a general plan that it offers to everyone, but a customized strategy to best benefit your practice.

Additional Consideration

In July 2018, NueMD was acquired by AdvancedMD. Currently, both solutions still operate independently, but AdvancedMD provides support services for NueMD products. It is unclear whether NueMD will continue as its own brand or be rolled into AdvancedMD's medical billing service, but it's worth considering and discussing with your NueMD sales representative before deciding to partner with the company for your RCM needs.
