Privato, previously known as LoqMail, provides simple-to-use email encryption software that can be web hosted, remotely hosted or hosted on premise. This email security services provides three types of yearly subscriptions: PrivateMail, PrivateMail Plus and PrivatoPOD. PrivateMail includes unlimited private communications between PrivateMail users, reports and a PrivateMail address. PrivateMail Plus also includes an allotment of recipient secure send/reply emails and multi-device support. PrivatoPOD includes recipient send/reply emails, multi-device support, private direct communications, an admin console and user-verification tools.
This email encryption software is simple to deploy, and Privato provides hosted options and hosted options with dedicated servers. However, the entry-level product, SecureMail, requires recipients to have a PrivateMail account to send and receive secure emails. In addition, this service supports unlimited private communications between PrivateMail users. This makes this service most suitable for organizations that routinely communicate with the same email addresses or within the organization.
The Privato platform includes 1024-bit asymmetric client-side message encryption using a distributed private key with 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) symmetric encryption for secure email. The SSL communications that transport messages outside of the Privato platform employ AES in 128-, 192- or 256-bit encryption depending on the recipient's device/browser client configuration. This level of security is adequate to satisfy most compliance requirements. Admins can run compliance reports and sort/filter messages.
This email encryption service is compatible with Outlook, Thunderbird and AppleMail. It also supports tablets and mobile devices with SSL 256-bit security. Users can access secure email tools by running PrivateMail from a USB drive on any PC privately. However, Privato does not provide mobile phone apps for natively running PrivateMail. This email service does not provide gateway filters or policy-based encryption. Nor does the technology work directly with data loss prevention appliances or software. Encryption is primarily left up to the sender to apply.
The technologies provided by Privato are most suitable for those looking to set up secure, private communications with recipients they interact with often or secure communications within an organization. PrivatoPOD creates safe, open lines of direct communication among known, verified recipients quite well and affordably. However, it provides little integration with popular business applications and does not have policy-based encryption filters. For advanced policy management and more direct integrations, you will want to consider one of our higher-ranked products.
