If your business regularly deals with the general public and you're looking to reach out to that consumer base, you're going to need a list broker that can get you the right names and addresses for your marketing strategy. With its custom approach, great prices and excellent customer service, we recommend Prospects Influential List Brokers for consumer lists.

The Verdict

Prospects Influential caters each list to its client's needs more than others in the industry, and it leverages contacts within the list industry to negotiate low prices and obtain good consumer lists. This earns it our pick for best consumer lists.

With more than 70,000 lists to choose from and connections with major list compilers throughout the industry, Prospects Influential can help you reach out to common and niche demographics with little issue. You can also use your rented lists as often as you like.

Prospects Influential Pricing

As with other list brokers, it's difficult to accurately estimate how much a list from Prospects Influential will cost you. Every list is based on several factors, including a household's annual income and the types of purchases a group or resident makes. As a result, the price for an email list for households with an annual income of $70,000 within a 10-mile radius of Kansas City will be different from a list of homes valued at $1.2 million within 25 miles of Tallahassee.

What set Prospects Influential apart from the other companies we examined was that its brokers use connections within the industry to negotiate a lower price on your behalf. Other companies we looked at either post general prices on their websites or use computer applications to find their prices. Prospects' sales rep told us that he was drawing upon more than two decades of experience when compiling lists and negotiating prices. We didn't see that kind of hands-on approach with other vendors.

During our testing, we posed as a small business owner in need of email and postal address lists for both businesses and consumer households. After telling the Prospects customer service representative the general location we were looking to advertise in and asking for the most basic criteria for potential candidates, we received a quote with a breakdown based on quantity.

For postal lists, we were given the following prices:

  • For 5,000 leads: $225
  • For 10,000 leads: $450

For email lists, we were given the following prices:

  • For 5,000 leads: $375
  • For 10,000 leads: $750

These figures were for a generic list for a specific part of the U.S., personally generated by a sales rep for our needs, so they should not be used to estimate how much your lists would cost. Different list needs will demand different prices, so our numbers should only be used to illustrate how Prospects Influential prices out its lists.

The company does charge a $50 processing fee, which we rarely saw in testing. While that shouldn't be a dealbreaker for most small businesses, it is something to keep in mind when trying to price out your lists.

Features

Choosing the right consumer list vendor for your small business often means finding the features that can help your company move forward. The features we found while dealing with Prospects Influential helped solidify it as one of our best picks.

  • Expert advice: When we began working with Prospects Influential while posing as a small business owner, we were immediately met with thoughtful questions to help us find out which list was best for us. After going over our options, the sales rep spent some time discussing our marketing plan and giving us pointers based on his years of experience in the direct marketing industry. That kind of one-on-one approach can be a major help to any small business owner.
  • Platform agnosticism: Unlike many of the other brokers we examined, Prospects Influential doesn't get its lists from just a handful of vendors. The company has access to more than 70,000 lists that span the globe from many partners. The ability to draw from so many sources means you also have access to a wider data set.
  • Opt-in messaging: Like most vendors, Prospects Influential's email lists are all opt-in, meaning the owners of the listed email addresses have consented to receive marketing messages. As a result, all of the email lists meet industry privacy guidelines, including the GDPR.

Additional Considerations

During our interactions with Prospects Influential and the sales rep who worked with us, we were regularly amazed at how seriously they took our request. As we mentioned earlier, the sales rep was thorough in getting our lists together and made sure that we would get the lowest prices possible for the lists we wanted. He was pleasant to work with the entire time.

What really impressed us was how, days later, the same sales rep called us to make sure we'd received his list counts while he was on vacation. While on the phone, he made sure we understood everything about the lists and wasn't pushy when we said we'd need more time. That level of dedication went beyond what we expected.

Aside from the stellar customer service, you may also want to consider Prospects Influential for its other list services, including telemarketing and multichannel lists. Both options follow existing privacy guidelines and are designed to give your business as wide a net as possible to cast in your marketing efforts.

Limitations

While we were impressed with Prospects Influential's approach, a couple of things could stand out as potential problems for some small businesses. Chief among those concerns is the processing fee. Prospects Influential is one of the rare brokers that charges an additional fee for its lists. The fee may be due to the company's approach to acquiring lists, but it still made us slightly concerned.

The other thing that stood out to us was how frequently the lists it procures are updated. While its website says that the lists are completely accurate and up to date, our sales rep told us that the update frequency depends on the vendor a list came from. Since it doesn't own its lists, Prospects Influential relies on those other companies for accuracy. However, the sales rep also told us that Prospects Influential stops working with any company that doesn't update its lists regularly.
