Citrix ShareFile is an FTP hosting service designed for easy integration into your current workflow. You can share files through public links, email attachments, private share folders or an FTP client software application. You can also sync data across all your computers and mobile devices, which allows you to share large files wherever you are without relying on email or a physical storage device.
Plans and Pricing
ShareFile has multiple plans, with the most comprehensive being the Team plan and the Business plan. The Business plan comes with significantly more features than the other tiers, including unlimited storage and bandwidth, with a 100GB max file size. It also features advanced administrative and workflow tools for large teams. It costs $100 per month and comes with five employee accounts. More accounts can be added for $10 each.
ShareFile allows you to customize your online portal to match your company's brand. This is important for maintaining brand recognition when sharing files with clients and customers through a public link. Instead of a webpage with ShareFile's logo and colors, your customers will see a page that features your company's logos and colors, reinforcing trust.
ShareFile uses 256-bit AES encryption for both transfer and storage. If a hacker gains access to the servers or to the files in transit, the files are worthless. In addition, firewalls and virus scanners protect ShareFile's servers, and a remote wipe feature allows you to remotely delete files on any computer connected to your account from any web browser. You could remove sensitive files from a stolen computer or a computer owned by a fired employee.
With ShareFile, you can control folder permissions, user usage, file expirations and identity verification. In addition to a comprehensive audit log of file activity, you can access and restore an unlimited number of file versions. This is a vital feature because online collaboration results in several versions of a file. File versioning allows you to return to previous versions to reference them or to remedy mistakes.
There's also a check-in/check-out mode, which requires certain files to be checked out first before they can be edited, which prevents other users from opening the file and make changes at the same time. If you need a file from someone outside your organization, using ShareFile, you can send them a link where they can securely upload the file, which is then immediately synced with your account.
ShareFile's less expensive plans lack the essential features many businesses need, such as advanced file tracking and security options.
Further, the Business plan is one of the most expensive plans of the cloud hosting and file-sharing services we reviewed, and that plan only includes five employee accounts. Most businesses will end up spending more to add additional employee accounts.
