SOAPware, a maker of medical records software (better known as EHR or EMR), also makes medical practice management (PM) software that offers the basics for scheduling, billing and coding. The medical PM software from SOAPware is offered as an add-on to its EHR solution, so you can create a comprehensive package that includes everything you need by way of software for running a medical practice.
As with any medical PM software, you get access to a scheduler where you can set patient appointments. It includes drag-and-drop functionality to make it simple to move appointments from one time or day to another. Although there are templates for popular office visits, such as check-up or flu, you can also create a unique appointment. Plus, calendar details are customizable, so you can set it up with recurring blocks, which is helpful for training; holidays, when your office is closed and no appointments are scheduled for those days; and color coding so you know where a patient is in the clinic process (i.e., in the waiting room, exam room or checking out).
You rely on medical PM software for diagnostic codes, and SOAPware offers updated codes whenever they change. Plus, you can use codes that you may be more familiar with from ICD-9 and the system finds the corresponding ICD-10 code for you. When ICD-11 is rolled out in 2018, SOAPware is likely to be among the first to have the library of codes updated in its cloud-based library.
The SMARText of SOAPware is essentially metadata. All that means is that you can reduce the amount of time spent entering data because of the shortcuts and predictive text the system offers. For example, if you were to type "htn" under an assessment field, "hypertension" would fill in for you. Think of it as shorthand for medical staff. The biggest benefit to this is that SMARText goes beyond text diagnoses, because you can build on the library with images, audio files, videos, codes and more. It simplifies the process from exam room to billing and reduces errors – there's no need to re-enter information.
SOAPware includes an easy-to-use insurance eligibility checker, which is found in each patient's profile. As soon as you enter the policy number and other information, you simply click the Check Eligibility button and it downloads almost immediately.
Although this medical PM software comes as an add-on to SOAPware's medical records program, it's a powerful duo. If you're not already using EHR that you love, then this could be a good all-in-one solution for a small medical practice.
