Spruce is a telemedicine platform that allows for secure, around-the-clock communication between doctors and their patients. This telemedicine program allows you to build a greater relationship with patients outside of your office while increasing your practice's revenues.

The Verdict

Spruce is a smartphone app your patients use to contact you or your office staff over a secure, HIPAA-compliant network. This telemedicine app allows for text and video communication for quick follow-up visits or to field a patient's questions and concerns.

This app can improve the efficiency of your medical practice. One feature this telemedicine app has is a questionnaire. When a patient reaches out to you or one of your staff members through the app, he or she fills out a questionnaire first. This questionnaire includes checkboxes next to many common symptoms. Patients click on the symptoms they are experiencing. In addition, there are dedicated areas where a patient can upload a photo or video that provides further visual information about their condition.

After the app filters and transmits the results to you, you can determine and respond with a possible diagnosis and treatment plan for the patient. The care plan includes instructions for the patient, including how they should care for themselves and what, if any, over-the-counter drugs they should take. You can instruct patients on the particular dosage of an existing medication they are taking and how long they should take it. (Spruce is currently working on a new feature that will allow doctors to prescribe medications over the app.)

Spruce's messaging system allows you to automate and customize how patients interact with your office staff during regular business hours. Patients can send urgent or non-urgent messages, which will send notifications to assigned staff members depending on the hours of the day, or it will ask patients to leave a voicemail.

Insurance reimbursement from private insurance, Medicare and Medicaid varies from state to state; however, Spruce offers a quick and easy billing system for patients, allowing them to pay with a credit card via the app.

Spruce allows patients to instantly reach their doctor through a private avenue and receive care for urgent and non-urgent issues. Conducting appointments for minor illnesses and follow-ups through this telemedicine service can increase practice revenues while freeing up staff members so they can concentrate on other patients.
