The Best Access Control Systems of 2019

The Verdict

Stanley offers competent access control, and its starter kit is especially well suited for businesses moving into a building without a previous system.

Stanley Security Options and Plans

Stanley offers a starter kit for its Stanley PAC system. The kit comes with a control panel, two door readers, a 10-pack of key fobs and an administrator's reader for activating fobs. The starter kit is expandable to grow with your business, and the administrative interface is free to download from Stanley's website. If your building doesn't have a previous access system, the starter kit is a quick, convenient way to get started.

Stanley can manage the system for you with its managed access service, leaving you free to focus on other aspects of your business. Stanley's access control specialists will manage your cardholder database, your scheduled lock times and holidays.

Features

Stanley offers several different types of readers, including a keypad and a weatherproof model. However, the readers require a consistent, wired connection to a control panel in order to function, whereas most modern readers do not.

Stanley is one of the few companies we reviewed that has an iris-recognition reader. The EyeLock iris reader is an impressive piece of biometric technology. It can scan an employee's eyes from a distance, even when they're moving. The scanner can be implemented for access control, but it is more expensive than regular readers.

Stanley's own key cards or fobs implement CSN (card serial number) technology, which is an average level of security but not the most robust. Stanley's system is compatible with readers and credentials from other companies, which presents some flexibility if you're looking for more or different hardware and credential options.

Stanley's other security features can be tied to its access control system, including a variety of fire and intrusion alarm systems. You can access system reports through a web client. Reports let you check on employee entry times and exit times if you set up an anti-passback system. The system does not have unlimited memory, so it would be wise to back up your event history from time to time.

Customer Service

In our experience, Stanley's customer support was direct and helpful. However, our email request for support was not returned for multiple days.

There is no live chat, so the best way to contact the company is by calling or filling out an online form. The company has a dedicated toll-free number in case you have an urgent monitoring issue.

It offers a number of resources on its site, including articles, videos about Stanley security systems and security issues in general, and literature relating to the company's services.
