Teladoc is a telemedicine platform designed to be a quick way to connect doctors and patients just through a cellphone. If you’re a general physician interested in increasing your income or want to work more flexible hours, you can contract with Teladoc to offer your services remotely to patients in your area.

During your active hours, you’ll be connected to patients on your computer or mobile device. You’ll also have access to the patient’s medical history. Teladoc isn’t a replacement for a patient’s regular doctor, and they’re not meant to establish a permanent relationship through the telemedicine company. If a patient has a serious condition, you are obligated to encourage them to make an in-person appointment with their primary physician or check into an urgent care center.

As a Teladoc doctor, your primary duty is to diagnose non-emergency health issues, make recommendations, field concerns and prescribe medication when appropriate. Due to the varying state laws concerning prescriptions over telemedicine platforms, Teladoc’s policy is that physicians can only prescribe certain drugs, such as antibiotics and antihistamines, and behavioral health doctors can only prescribe mild antidepressants and anxiolytics. Teladoc doctors cannot prescribe controlled substances such as narcotics or any other drug that can be prone to abuse.

As a contracted employee, you will receive a 1099 form for tax purposes. Teladoc provides you medical malpractice insurance up to $1 million per incident, and it is capped at a total of $3 million.

If you are an employer, hospital or insurer, you can add Teladoc to your repertoire of benefits for your members. As an employer or insurer, you can save money by reducing the amount of unnecessary doctor’s office and emergency room visits. Hospitals offering this telemedicine program to outgoing patients can reduce ER re-admissions, freeing up more medical staff.

Teladoc is one of the most convenient telemedicine companies, allowing patients nearly instant access to a medical professional from anywhere with a phone signal. This service can be a source of income for doctors looking to supplement their main income or who are looking for more flexible hours. For businesses looking to give employees or clients an added health benefit, it could end up saving them money in the long run. editorial staff editorial staff
