As a small business owner, it's likely that you possess the same IT skills as the average user, which means installing antivirus software can sometimes be stressful. If you have dedicated IT support, you'll want to call them if you go with Trend Micro. Getting this product up and running can be a trial, but if you can make it work, you'll have high-performing malware detection and performance.
Let's start with the positives. AV-TEST, an independent testing organization for security software, gives Trend Micro high scores for detecting malware and says that Trend Micro won't slow down your machine too much or interrupt you with annoying false positives. Simply put, you get premium protection without any noticeable slowdown.
Worry-Free Business Security Advanced also features internet and email protection, allowing you to block spam and filter web content. The software also detects harmful sites and blocks them. Remote device detection is also a feature, meaning that the program can scan USB drives or other removable media and check it for malware.
On the downside, installation is a real pain if you don't have an IT technician on hand. During installation, we encountered several complications, including complicated components that an IT administrator had to explain and complete. Once you have the software installed, you can launch the management console, but the console won't open unless you are using Internet Explorer with ActiveX running. Our IT administrator tried a number of solutions before realizing this was the problem, meaning that without an IT expert, you'd be on your own to figure out what the obstacle is.
Trend Micro's product only offers on-premise hosting, making it your responsibility to provide computer resources and an IT tech to install and configure the software. For those small businesses who don't have an IT department and who may not be tech savvy, our recommendation is to forgo a hard installation and opt for something with cloud management.
It's important to choose the best antivirus software for your small business's needs. Consider the benefits and pitfalls of each antivirus program we reviewed, and if your conclusion is that you can manage the installation process, then Trend Micro is a solid choice for antivirus protection.
