Tyco has one of the biggest catalogs of security products that can be implemented, which means you can craft the ideal system for your business. Our favorites include the emerald, an all-in-one touchscreen reader that uses smart cards, fingerprint recognition and an intercom.

The Best Access Control Systems of 2019

The Verdict

Tyco can offer your business a lot of possibilities when it comes to access control. Its products set the standard for good security and access control.

Another option, the Handkey 2, maps an employee's hand as their credential. Also available are a variety of door readers that can work independently and don't require a constant connection to the overall system. The physical credentials Tyco offers are also top quality, using advanced encryption technology on the smart cards to prevent card cloning. Tyco offers both traditional systems and IP systems that run over a network, although the IP systems offered still require control panels.

Tyco offers several integrations with its access control system, including video surveillance, fire alarms, intrusion alarms, perimeter detection and asset tracking. These features can be tied to your interface so you can customize emergency procedures, be alerted to suspicious activity and suspend credentials. Tyco's security division will contact local emergency responders for you when break-ins, fires or other emergencies occur.

Tyco's largest control panel can control up to 32 doors. If you need more doors covered, you'll need to install more panels. However, the number of employees you can register to the system is unlimited. With hundreds of locations around the country, Tyco and its affiliates can visit your location to help determine which of its software and hardware offerings will work best for you, and they will provide you with professional installation.

Tyco offers several different interface options for reporting and administrating, all of which are designed for different types of situations, but they all possess the qualities we consider important to access control. The available video integration is available means you can pull up video clips of specific events, such as suspicious entries or break-in attempts. The systems also have unlimited event history for pulling ups activity from months or even years ago, which is important for auditing purposes.

The systems also let you keep track of guests, granting visitors temporary access and letting you set the level of access they have. Your access system can also double as a time and attendance tracker, letting you know when employees clock in and clock out.

Tyco has an option for managing your access control system on your smartphone, which is handy if you're often away from your main office. The company offers a managed access service that leaves the managing of your security and access to Tyco. This is especially useful to smaller businesses that don’t have the time or manpower for managing access.

Tyco offers a 24/7 telephone support line; however, it's the only way to contact them since there is no email or live chat available. Tyco's website contains a lot of information, including product manuals, technical instructions and videos. You can also request training sessions to help you better understand your system.
