Accounting is difficult, so the software you use to track your money should be easy to use and easy to learn, especially if you are using accounting software for the first time. Of all the software we tested, we found Xero’s dashboard to be one of the easiest to use, even though some tasks are hard to navigate through. We also found that getting started with Xero was simple. The process only requires your personal and business contact information before starting to create and send invoices to clients.
As you start creating invoices, you can also customize them in a variety of different ways. You can change the way your fonts, logos and titles look as well as being able to adjust margins and logo placement. You can also save these templates and choose from them when you create new invoices. The quote and estimate creation process functions in a similar way, and you can customize those templates, too. The only quirk we found while creating quotes and invoices was the fact that sometimes the interface opens a new window in your browser, which can make for some awkward navigation.
Xero’s small business accounting software supports over 160 currencies and a variety of different tax rates. As such, creating clients in this software is one of the more comprehensive systems we’ve seen, and the choices you make auto-populate while you create invoices for those clients. Having a broad range of customization options helps you as you grow your business.
Xero has good inventory management tools. This company excels where other cloud accounting software fails. We knew exactly where to go to add and manage items and services without having to dig around in the settings. The inventory section is contained directly in the “Accounts” tab of the dashboard, which is in clear sight when you first open the software.
As you start looking at growing your business, you might be happy to know that Xero offers three different pricing tiers for its bookkeeping software. With more options available to you, you have more flexibility for your company as it starts to grow. Each package offers access to unlimited users, but the higher-priced versions offer more advanced features, like customizable purchase orders, payroll services and tax-filing functionality.
Xero’s support was standard, and we didn’t have any problems finding solutions to our problems. You can contact Xero’s support team through live chat, phone and email support channels, and you can use Xero’s large, active user community to find answers to your questions.
Xero is a great choice for any business looking to delve into online accounting software. However, we found it performed strongest when applied to small business models that are just beginning their growth phases. This company boasts one of the easiest dashboards to learn and use, and with it, you shouldn't have any trouble getting started on your accounting process.
