The most recent Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report shows the slight increase in jobs in the month of January 2012, yet again making our ascent out of this recession a slow and painful one. There are still many displaced workers but the increase in economic stability is creating jobs. If you are one of the lucky employers who has the ability to hire employees in this market, the advice herein will be a refresher on how to weed out those with less than desirable histories, and how to spot those who may be omitting or including things that just may not be truthful – and cost you a lot of money in the end.
If you think that digging into prospective employees’ resumes, or even running a background check, is not necessary then you may want to think again. Recent stories of late with Executives who stated certain criteria that never existed makes you think, what else are people hiding? With more than half of all job applicants listing untruths on their resumes you may want to find out more about who you are considering for a hire and run a full background check, before you find out the hard way. Hopefully this infographic will help you improve your hiring process so that you can build the best workforce possible for your business.

I think the background checks are the most important factors for any business in today’s time. It is becoming easy too. As the technology can really help us in getting a real check for any body!
@Victor Barnes, yes it is very easy to generate a background check for employment these days so there is really no excuse. And the investment is definitely worth while.
We’ve notice a rise in email inquires in our firm as well last month.(We’re an employment agency for CRNAs)The end of last year there was a big decline in the amount of inquires we got but we expected that because of the holidays. January has proven to be a better month and people are getting out and looking again.
I love the infograph and can’t believe that 53% of people lie on their resume. I was thinking it would be around 25% but would have never guessed that high. It’s so sad that people are in need of jobs so bad that they feel they need to lie to get it.
@Brooke, yes the unemployment rate is the lowest its been in years right now and there are definitely more people hiring. It is also that time of the year. And yes, people are desperate for jobs and can be driven to mislead on their resumes sometimes. We’re glad that you enjoyed the infographic! A dependable workforce doesn’t come naturally. I feel, imparting a good deal of training on different areas of work ethics could create one. A well defined training strategy in place could bring the best in your employees.
@George, you are spot on with that comment! A dependable workforce is cultivated. But you need to make sure that you put yourself in a position to cultivate a solid workforce by having truthful and ethical people.
Doing a good backround check is the way to go.SPEND THE MONEY !!! It will be well worth it in the long run.Believe me I have learned the hard way and have paid for it dearly.
Chuck,
Background checks are definitely the way to go. Before the Internet, people could hide a lot of the negative stuff. Now, there are more avenues to check up on potential hires. As you said, a little money spent ahead of time can save a great deal in the long run if you end up making the wrong hire, criminal record or no criminal record.
Loved the graphics, much better than pouring over the typed word and greta info ~ thanks for sharing!
