Why We Chose Deel for Global Payments

Deel offers various human resources (HR) solutions for employers with international operations. We were particularly impressed by Deel’s global payments features — not many PEOs we reviewed offer global payroll. Deel can help you replace an internal HR department, set up workers in new countries and pay contractors and employees in multiple currencies. The platform acts as a centralized payroll system where you can view and manage all worker payments from one source. In contrast, other providers may have you jumping between systems and services to monitor payroll. We also like that Deel provides global payroll reports and analytics

We were impressed by Deel’s unique benefits tool that helps you decide which employee benefits to offer a worker based on location. This feature is valuable as employers expand their talent pools in different regions. For all these reasons and more, Deel is our choice for the best PEO for global payments.

We like that Deel offers localized support to help you stay legally compliant across multiple countries and jurisdictions. During our testing and analysis, we were pleased with Deel’s user-friendly platform. We like that it offers a centralized location for employers to view and manage worker payments globally — a necessity for businesses with international operations. We found it easy to access and work with Deel’s global analytics functions and customizable dashboard. Additionally, we appreciated Dee’s benefits tool, which can help employers understand what employee benefits they should offer their workers in various locations.

Features

Since Deel offers several HR plans and add-on options, the standard PEO services you use will depend on your plan. Here’s a look at some of our favorite Deel features that make it an especially ideal solution for global payments.

Global payroll and taxes

We like that Deel makes it easy to pay employees and contractors across more than 100 countries. You can view and manage all payments from a centralized platform and set up automated invoicing and payments. We were impressed that if you need help navigating local payroll or setting up an entity, Deel’s in-house payroll experts can assist you. We were especially pleased that Deel offers salary and tax payments (where applicable) and local filing with authorities. Not many PEO services we reviewed offered this level of global service.

Deel’s contractor payment options are also notable. Deel allows for more than 10 client funding options and over seven withdrawal options for contractors, including physical contractor cards. If contractors must amend their contracts, they can do so seamlessly within the Deel platform as the information will be updated in your payroll system. This level of contractor management is impressive — some PEO competitors we reviewed didn’t provide any contractor management services.

TipBottom line

Consult a business attorney if you have any questions about using a PEO for international operations.

Employee benefits

We were pleased to see how quickly Deel makes the onboarding process, regardless of where your employees or contractors are located. A significant part of employee onboarding is ensuring your employees can access and manage their employee benefits with ease. Additionally, knowing what benefits you should (or must) offer employees in various countries can be challenging, but Deel simplifies the process.

We were impressed by Deel’s unique Benefits Tool. During testing, we found it intuitive and easy to navigate. You enter a country and select the type of benefits you want: statutory, common and competitive. The tool populates a list of benefits based on your selections, along with brief descriptions. We also found it helpful that Deel includes where and how the benefit is offered, such as via the government, a third party or Deel. This tool is valuable for global employers and we didn’t see it offered by other providers we evaluated.

Legal risk and compliance

Deel does an excellent job helping companies with HR compliance across multiple countries and jurisdictions. It offers location-tailored compliance-assured onboarding, document collection and offboarding. We also like that it offers localized employment contracts and documents for contractors and employees as well as additional services like background checks and visa support — features many PEOs don’t offer.

If you need help with recruitment, Deel offers local legal hiring experts and has over 200 partners worldwide.

Pricing Plans and Subscription Costs

Instead of offering one bundled HR solution — like many other PEOs we reviewed — Deel offers varying plans for employers with different needs. We found Deel’s plans to be relatively customizable solutions. Here’s a quick look at some of the plans Deel offers:

  • Deel HR: This plan is free for companies with up to 200 people. It provides access to standard HR features like onboarding and offboarding, document management, org charts, time-off tracking, expense management, workflow automation, HR reporting and customizable permissions.
  • Contractors: This plan starts at $49 per month and is worthwhile if you want to hire contractors globally. It has features to help you avoid worker misclassification, create locally compliant worker contracts, collect local tax agreements and automate invoicing and time-off management. It also allows bulk contractor payments with more than 10 different methods and 150 different currencies.
  • Global payroll: This is where Deel shines. While other plans include payroll, payroll is the sole focus of this plan. You’ll need to contact a sales representative for exact pricing, but the plan includes features like centralized payroll management, government declarations, benefits, filing payroll taxes, local payroll regulation compliance and global payroll reports.
  • Immigration: Few competitors offer the services in this plan. However, immigration services can be especially valuable when globalizing your workforce. Deel can sponsor visas in 25 countries, centralize application tracking and provide support from local immigration experts.
  • EOR: This plan starts at $599 monthly. It might sound pricey, but it includes many global employment features. These include international hiring, payroll processing and tax filing, employee benefits administration, compliance assistance and more than 20 other helpful integrations.

We like that Deel allows you to customize your HR plan with helpful add-ons like localized benefits, equipment shipment, visa management, background checks, contractor management and global workspaces.

We also didn’t see any requirements for employee minimums, which is great if you are looking to hire just a few workers in any given location.

Did You Know?Did you know

Deel’s EOR services are valuable when expanding to countries where you don’t have a legal entity. In contrast, standard PEOs use a co-employment model, requiring you to have a locally registered entity in the country where you have employees.

Implementation/Onboarding

Deel offers several plans with a wide range of add-on options. Consider contacting a Deel representative directly to set up a plan that meets all your needs. The implementation period for Deel is roughly one to three months, which is on par with other vendors we reviewed.

Keep in mind that Deel offers a custom application programming interface and integrates with more than 15 HR information system and accounting platforms. You’ll likely want to add on at least one or more integrations. While adding integrations can add to the implementation time, you’ll be able to streamline your HR processes down the road.

Customer Support

We were pleased with Deel’s customer support options. Unlike some competitors that offer support only during select hours, Deel has in-app chat support available 24/7. We found this to be a key feature for employers with global workers. Instead of limiting yourself to one time zone, you can rest assured that help is on the way 24/7. We also like that Deel provides its clients with a dedicated customer success manager. You’ll have a point person to contact anytime you have questions about the platform or managing your global workforce.

Limitations

While Deel is an excellent global payments option, we discovered some limitations.

  • Few performance management features: Deel does not offer the extensive performance management features of some other PEOs we reviewed. You must add an HR plugin or integrate it with another performance management solution if you want those features for your global workers. If you’re looking for an HR outsourcing solution to help manage employee performance, check out our review of Paychex or our review of Insperity. Both solutions offer a wealth of resources to help employees upskill and excel.
  • Lack of accreditation: We noted another minor limitation: Deel is not accredited with the ESAC or BBB. This isn’t necessarily a reflection on the type of service you will receive with Deel. However, we like to see our best picks have these types of accreditations. If accreditations are essential to you, read our review of ADP to learn more about how that HR outsourcing solution might be a better fit.

Methodology

We researched and analyzed dozens of highly rated PEO service providers to identify the top PEOs and help businesses choose the right PEO service for their needs. We looked at pricing, contract requirements, bundled vs. a la carte features, minimum requirements, employee benefits administration, time tracking tools, payroll processing and taxes, administrative HR functions, talent management features, integrations, legal risk and compliance assistance, accreditations and customer support.

We watched product videos and conducted demos when possible. When looking for the best PEO solutions for global payments specifically, we prioritized global payroll processing, global tax filing, usability, compliance assistance, customer service and additional support resources.
