Editor's Rating9/10

When you’re trying to grow a business, gaining customers is all about being seen. Most of the best point-of-sale (POS) systems help promote your business through loyalty programs, promotions and targeted marketing. However, many don’t include scheduling functionality to help you serve highly promising leads and existing customers better. With robust scheduling tools and a feature-rich POS system, Wix is an ideal solution for businesses that want to streamline scheduling so viable leads don’t fall through the cracks and existing customers receive the services they need. It’s easy to customize a one-stop booking solution optimized for your business.

Why We Chose Wix for Scheduling

Scheduling tools can be the difference between a warm lead that gets away and one that results in successful lead conversion and ongoing work. Wix’s robust scheduling functionality helps this POS system go the extra mile to turn leads into customers and serve existing customers better — particularly for service-based businesses. During our testing process, we were impressed that Wix seems to have thought of everything when it comes to streamlining scheduling, making it a great choice for businesses trying to maintain or grow their customer base.

We particularly liked Wix’s Booking Calendar feature, which allows users to set client appointments, select payment modes and add pertinent details, such as the services they typically request, appointment duration and assigned staff member. You can schedule single appointments or recurring appointments with a set number of visits.

Wix also makes it easy to collect customer payments in conjunction with scheduling. A Collect Payment option allows business owners to set prices and accept payments automatically, manually and via invoicing. We appreciate that Wix has in-house payment processing services and supports third-party payment processors. You can charge clients for recurring sessions all at once or by individual appointment.

Clients will appreciate the ability to update and change appointments and businesses with multiple locations will welcome the option to set specific appointment locations. For all these reasons and more, Wix is our choice for the best POS system for scheduling functionality.

An efficient online scheduling system is an excellent way to drive repeat business, accommodate customer preferences and provide a personalized experience for your clientele.

Ease of Use

We found Wix exceptionally easy to use, particularly for startups and small businesses in the service industry. Its streamlined scheduling tools are particularly intuitive. All available options for customizing customer appointments are easily accessible in the Booking Calendar, allowing businesses to provide highly personalized, excellent customer service

Notably, Wix is one of several POS systems that incorporate website-building capabilities. Because Wix started as a website builder, its functions in this area are particularly user-friendly. Wix’s website-building tools don’t seem like add-ons or afterthoughts. Instead, the platform’s intuitive, drag-and-drop functions allow merchants to completely customize their website design and online presence and facilitate effective e-commerce transactions. Using Wix’s templates, you can put together an attractive, functional site in very little time.

Wix Features

Wix boasts an impressive array of POS system features that can help your business accept payments, schedule clients, run loyalty programs and more. For the most robust experience, Wix’s POS features sync with features already included on your Wix website.

Booking Calendar

Wix’s Booking Calendar feature impressed us. It’s ideal for businesses that rely on scheduling customers for return visits, especially when multiple locations are involved. Users can set recurring appointments and choose payment methods for clients. Payment collection is straightforward with Wix Payments or a third-party processor.

Loyalty Programs

Customer loyalty programs are a crucial element of customer retention. We were happy to see that Wix provides ample loyalty tools. Wix users can create referral programs, design custom-branded gift cards and build points-based loyalty programs. While Wix’s loyalty tools aren’t as advanced as some POS systems we reviewed, businesses that want to sustain and grow customer relationships will appreciate them. However, if you need robust customer management and loyalty features, check out our Lightspeed review. This POS platform lets you create tiered loyalty and rewards programs for both online and offline customers, which we think could prove to be a boon for sales.

Payment Processing

Payment processing through Wix is easy, and we liked that there are multiple ways to accomplish it. Wix Payments is the system’s built-in processor, providing an easy and seamless way for new users to get started accepting credit cards and other payment types. It’s also quite straightforward to connect a third-party payment processor like Stripe or PayPal directly from your dashboard — an enormous benefit for businesses already using a payment processor with which they have a good relationship.

Like most POS systems, Wix supports numerous payment methods. For example, you can accept credit and debit cards, near-field communication mobile payments like Apple Pay and more unique options like Affirm, which allows customers to pay over time. Wix also supports mobile payment acceptance with its handheld devices, and you can add payment buttons to your website to accept online payments.

Bottom LineBottom line
Wix supports several third-party credit card payment services, which can save businesses money if they want to switch their POS system but are still under contract with a payment processor.

Integrations

As a business grows, integrations with other business apps become more important. Wix integrates with some of the best accounting software, including QuickBooks Online and Xero as well as delivery services like DoorDash and Shipday. Other popular integration options include apps for social media content creation, which can be useful as you explore the limits of your business’s capabilities.

Additionally, Wix’s in-house integrations — Wix Stores, Wix Events and Wix Bookings — will be exceptionally helpful if you already have a Wix website.

Security

While most reputable POS vendors observe stringent security measures, we appreciate that Wix is upfront about its focus on consumer safety. Its POS system offers end-to-end encryption and PCI compliance. Its card readers are EMV-certified, making accepting payments from customers as safe as possible.

Mobile App

We liked Wix’s mobile app offerings. The Wix Owner App for iOS and Android allows you to add and sell products with custom charges, manage booking services, accept customer payments, honor coupons and discounts and send digital receipts. This app can improve convenience for on-the-go business owners and managers significantly.

We also appreciate that Wix can help you create a customer-facing app for your business where customers can purchase items, book appointments, view announcements and more. This tool can boost customer convenience and make it easier for them to interact with your business.

Hardware

We were pleased to find that Wix offers a range of sleek hardware designed to meet the needs of various businesses. We also like that there’s a 30-day money-back guarantee if your equipment doesn’t work out. Here’s an overview of some Wix hardware options:

  • Wix POS: Wix’s tablet-based terminal can be used for merchant or customer display. At 14 inches, this HP device is attractive and functional.
  • Dashboard card reader: This card reader easily connects to your Wix dashboard via your computer. When you use your computer to check out customers, taking contactless and card payments and tracking bookings and orders is simple.
  • Mobile card reader and dock: These devices help you take payments on the go. They’re a great way to keep things moving if you have a mobile-based business or are moving around in a crowd or selling tickets or services.
  • Accessories: Expand your capabilities with a terminal receipt printer, cash drawer, USB scanner, dashboard dock and more.

Reporting

We found Wix’s POS reporting capabilities to be on par with industry standards. Users’ dashboards provide customizable data analytics that can help business owners make informed decisions. Report options include customizable sales reports with multiple view options, such as a table or graph, that you can sort by date, customer type, order number, billing region and more.

Wix’s reporting capabilities allow you to analyze trends and make adjustments as needed. You can also set permissions for team members to collaborate on or view reports.

Wix Pricing

Wix’s POS system costs depend on the functions you need but arriving at a definitive price will take some work. You’ll need to sign up for a Wix Premium plan, upgrade it to a Retail POS Pro plan and then factor in hardware and payment processing costs.

1. Wix Premium Plans

To take advantage of Wix’s retail POS functionality, you must be a current Wix subscriber with a Wix Premium Plan that allows you to accept payments. All plans include a custom domain and 24/7 customer support.

Plans are as follows:

  • Core: $29 per month; allows five collaborations and includes 50GB of storage, basic marketing, analytics and e-commerce functions and the ability to accept payments
  • Business: $36 per month; allows 10 collaborators and includes payment acceptance, 100GB of storage and standard marketing, analytics and e-commerce functions
  • Business Elite: $159 per month; allows 15 collaborators and includes payment acceptance, unlimited storage, advanced marketing, analytics and e-commerce functions

2. Upgrade to a Retail POS Pro Plan

At this point, you must upgrade to a Retail POS Pro plan. We were disappointed that Wix doesn’t disclose pricing for this upgrade online. You’ll need to contact the company or access upgrade information after signing up for a plan. We would’ve preferred to see more straightforward pricing information.

3. Hardware Costs

Your retail needs will determine your hardware options and costs (all POS software is included with hardware purchases). Wix has hardware offerings for businesses in the retail, services and events spaces.

Here are Wix’s Primary hardware options:

Hardware

Cost

Includes

The Complete Retail POS Package

$1,295

  • Terminal
  • Card reader with dock
  • Receipt printer
  • Barcode scanner
  • Cash drawer

Your Retail Essentials

$995

  • Terminal
  • Card reader with dock

Dashboard Card Reader

$295

  • Card reader

Mobile Card Reader + Dock

$98

  • Mobile card reader with dock

Accessories include a printer-driven cash drawer ($125), a USB terminal scanner ($145) and a terminal receipt printer ($185).

Wix’s hardware is more expensive than some of the other POS systems we reviewed. While you may opt for the Dashboard Card Reader to keep things simple, you’ll likely need a terminal with a card reader, receipt printer and cash drawer if you plan on having a more permanent physical storefront setup.

Wix does offer financing for higher-priced hardware items. Users can get a Complete Retail POS Package for four payments of $323.75. The Your Retail Essentials package is $248.75 for four payments and the Dashboard Card Reader can be had for four payments of $73.75.

TipBottom line
The type of POS system you choose will depend on your industry. For example, an iPad-based POS system may work well for a small retail store, but busier operations may need a terminal POS system.

4. Processing Fees

POS system users must also consider credit card processing fees and Wix’s rates are on par with industry standards, aside from significantly higher rates for American Express cards. Rates are as follows:

  • Card-present credit and debit card transactions: 2.9% plus 30 cents
  • Card-present transactions with American Express cards: 3.7% plus 30 cents
  • Keyed-in transactions with American Express cards: 4.3% plus 30 cents
  • Wix Payments POS: 2.6%
  • Wix Payments Tap to Pay: 2.6% plus 20 cents
  • Wix Payments keyed in cards: 3.5% plus 30 cents
  • Tap to Pay on mobile: 2.6% plus 20 cents
  • Afterpay and Affirm: 6% plus 30 cents
  • Chargebacks: $15 (exceptions may apply)

Implementation and Onboarding

If your business already uses Wix as a website host — or you used it to build your site — adding POS functionality will be straightforward. Its software and user interface are intuitive and easy to learn — particularly if you’re already familiar with the platform. However, if you’re new to Wix, you’ll have to take a few steps to get up and running with it as a POS system.

First, you’ll need to sign up for a Premium plan with payment acceptance functionality. Next, you’ll create a Wix Payments account that will allow you to accept various payment methods. Wix Payments isn’t available everywhere; if your area isn’t covered or if you would rather use a different payment provider, Wix can accommodate you with payment processing partners like Square, PayPal, Stripe, Authorize.net and more. Notably, you must be verified for a Wix Payments account, which can take a few days.

At this point, you’ll also have to upgrade to a Retail POS Pro plan. Since pricing isn’t disclosed, you’ll need to speak to a Wix POS specialist to determine costs and next steps. Finally, you’ll need to select and purchase hardware that accommodates your retail needs. We like that Wix’s bundled hardware takes the guesswork out of choosing the setup you’ll need and that your POS software is preloaded on all devices.

Customer Support

We felt Wix does a comprehensive job of trying to get your questions answered online via informative articles and online written instructions before you need to get on the phone. A dedicated “help center” portion of its website features the following:

  • Customer support callbacks: These callbacks are available 24/7 for English speakers and there are set hours for speakers of nine other languages.
  • Live chat: Live chat is available in certain languages during specific hours. English speakers may access this feature between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. Eastern time.
  • Interactive online troubleshooting: Users can receive interactive help in real time.
  • Online troubleshooting instruction: Users can pose specific issues and find answers in an online troubleshooting instructional section.
  • Hire a professional: This option allows users to match with Wix partners who can help solve specific issues.
  • Online articles: Users can access Wix articles on known issues users have reported. They’re broken down by topic for easy searching.
  • Business development and affiliate programs: Wix offers more long-term solution brainstorming through a business development and partnership program and an affiliate program for those willing to promote Wix.

However, we would have preferred Wix to have dedicated customer support for its POS offerings rather than just general help for its overall platform.

Limitations

Wix can be a great solution for an e-commerce business that wants to start selling in person — particularly if it already uses Wix as a website platform. However, we identified the following limitations:

  • Buried customer support: Wix’s support revolves around submitting help tickets or requesting a callback. We would have preferred a phone number where you can reach a Wix POS contact for help. Check out our Clover POS review if you’re looking for a vendor with more readily available phone support. This vendor provides customer support by phone or email 24/7.
  • Chargeback fees: Wix has $15 chargeback fees, although it says exceptions apply. Chargeback fees aren’t usually a dealbreaker, but if your industry is particularly susceptible, Wix may not be the best choice. For a vendor who is especially business-friendly when it comes to chargebacks, see our CAKE POS review. This company offers chargeback assistance to help businesses manage these situations.
  • High American Express fees: If you cater to AmEx cardholders, Wix’s fees for this type of credit card are comparatively high.
  • Limited inventory management: Although users can manage inventory from their Wix dashboards, they can’t do so via their POS tablets beyond handling out-of-stock situations. If inventory management is a priority, read our review of Square. Square POS issues daily alerts for low-stock or out-of-stock items and supports thousands of stock keeping units.

Methodology

We researched and analyzed numerous top POS systems to determine the best solutions for businesses in various industries with varying needs. We evaluated hardware, POS software, features, POS reporting capabilities, payment processing functions, integrations, customer support and more. When possible, we watched product videos and demos and conducted hands-on testing. When identifying the best POS system for scheduling, we prioritized customer management features, usability, integrated payment acceptance and customization options that engender future growth.

FAQs

No. Although Wix typically charges a percentage for each credit card transaction, it does not take commissions for sales.
No. You must have a Wix Premium plan to accept payments using Wix.
Wix users can accept customer payments with credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and many other methods via Wix's built-in payment processor, Wix Payments or through a third-party payment processor.

Bottom Line

We recommend Wix for:

  • Businesses that already use Wix for their website and need a POS for their retail store.
  • Service providers looking for easy and comprehensive scheduling capabilities to integrate with their POS.
  • E-commerce retailers that want to start selling in person.

We do not recommend Wix for:

  • Businesses that need fast, available phone-based support for their POS system.
  • Merchants that conduct significant business with AmEx cardholders.
  • Users who need extensive inventory management and loyalty program features via their POS system.
